they're little identification stamps given to your computer from websites who want to know were you surf. in your browser settings there is a tab to delete cookies. You can also change the security level so your browser doesn't accept them anymore. Cookies can be good as well as bad. When you come to this site for example, it knows who you are due to a cookie.
