We couldn’t test that much last year, we do a million a day nowThis time last year we had 600 cases a day in the UK we've now got 35k.
Don't just look at the death rate today and this date last year

Do you think we only caught 600 cases out of 35k?We couldn’t test that much last year, we do a million a day now
No what I mean we didn’t have the testing capacity last year like we do nowDo you think we only caught 600 cases out of 35k?
Not sure if you're on a wind up, hope not.
Which is why what is called the positivity rating is vital. Look for it in the data posts in here as it tells you a lot but the government in England (though not in the other home nations) ignore it.No what I mean we didn’t have the testing capacity last year like we do now
See India, Indonesia, South Africa, Tunisia, Russia for details of what non vaccination means with Delta. Is the vaccine really working , as deaths was low last summer but seem to be higher than this summer
Is the vaccine really working ,
I think it's unlikely we'd see the same explosion. I get the impression many of our young people have already caught it. If the news is terrible in a few weeks time - very possible - then maybe it will wake some up, nudge them into getting the vaccine. There might be a lot of attention and social pressure from everyone else.Looking at those Netherlands figures is getting me very nervous. Far more than any stats we’ve seen over here.
think there needs to be some serious incentive for under 35’s to vaccinate at a much higher rate than they are.
Tax cuts or tax rises depending on your vac status? Money off holidays for double vacc’d? Hotel quarantine after travel abroad for anyone offered a vaccine but refused it irrelevant of green or amber list?
I think you’re probably right. I reckon there’s loads that have had it that haven’t reported it.I think it's unlikely we'd see the same explosion. If it plays out the way it has in Holland, then the deal is going to be, either you all get it, or the clubs will stay shut.
It's basically been like that all along, for all of us. Every adult gets the vaccine - or we'll keep moving back into restrictions sooner, and for longer.

There's loads of urban local authority areas where less than 50% of adults have one jab, never mind two.I'm under 35 and can't get my second vaccine even if I wanted to. Officially I'm booked in for the last week of August but if I went to a walk in centre they would refuse me for 3 weeks yet as the gap between vaccines is set at 8 weeks minimum.

Scroll in (give it a minute to get all the data), and you'll see what I mean.
I really don't know what to say about it. The young haven't had a lot of opportunity compared to the rest of us, but some of these people will be unarsed, and some too busy in low paid jobs.
Agree, the private sector tho is driven by public demand. And demand for these measures isn't at all noticable. We are a free country and people can choose to ignore health advice if they want, it’s down to individual companies to demand the two vaccine rule and when they can’t go on holiday or even all entertainment venues most will change their mind
We need to keep rolling out the jab most under. 35 yrs are sensible and will rush to have it when it’s offered
That’s nicely put , I do read your updates and have since you startedWhich is why what is called the positivity rating is vital. Look for it in the data posts in here as it tells you a lot but the government in England (though not in the other home nations) ignore it.
This tells you the number of positive cases from the tests carried out so a figure that is independent of how many they are doing.
The vaccines are the key reason we do not have hundreds of deaths per day now as we did in the winter the last time we were getting the same kind of positivity numbers as now.
The age range of those catching it now is very much younger than it was in January as the vaccines protect the most vulnerable best of all and most - though it will never be all - deaths and serious illness are being staved off now because of them.
We would have zero chance of opening up and be in full on lockdown now if the vaccines had not radically changed the picture over the past 6 months.
That is the simple truth that the data shows conclusively. There will still be illness and deaths and cases will happen possibly forever now Covid is established but it has become a manageable disease akin to several other serious ones that we cannot ignore and have to act to control but do not bring the nation to a standstill,
Things might change in either direction over the coming months. If they do what we do to respond might have to change. But we are in very much more hopeful position now than we were the last time we had these kind of case numbers. And whatever the internet might claim the vaccines are the key thing that has turned the tide our way,

The front page of the Sunday Times reports that Johnson has asked for that gap to be reduced to 4 weeks, so your wish may yet be granted.I'm under 35 and can't get my second vaccine even if I wanted to. It’s not enforceable in law because the NHS APP self self-isolation ping / info is private to you. That doesn’t make it advisory either. Those posters who are big on personal replsponsibilitybshouod understand that but I doubt that they will.Is it true that if your NHS app tells you to self isolate then it’s only advisory ( not law ) to isolate . I can only find the Grant Shapps news article but can’t see anything official that backs this up . Thanks
