I’m normally pro-European, but I can’t believe how badly Europe has handled this. Seems very fishy to me that they are suspending AZ but not Pfizer, which has caused issues and even been linked to deaths in the US (I’m sure the vaccine didn’t cause this by the way).

Just heard a story from my brother-in-law that friends they know in Italy have reported large queues for vaccines only to be told that there are not enough doses in some cases. My gut feeling is that this report of possible issues has given health authorities a convenient excuse for some breathing space.

Still, I’m a cynical bugger.
I think AZ are due to vastly underperform against the contract they have with the EU, above and beyond what was discussed/argued about earlier in the year.....talk of Van de Leyden and others being called to task over the contracts etc........if I was a betting man I would think this is a move (suspending the jab) by EU to save face. It also rather cleverly put AZ under scrutiny.

That sounds about right. Reports here are that AZ have cut their vaccine deliveries to Europe by 73%.

I read somewhere over the weekend that there was talk about Van de Leyden losing her job over the AZ contract fiasco.....

I just feel sorry for those people who are already shit scared of vaccines, becoming terrified at the thought of getting the AZ jab after how the EU nations have reacted

It’s quite remarkable how many of the big countries in Europe have fucked up the vaccination process from the start to present.

This is the latest in a series of events which can only lead to more Covid deaths in these countries.

We seem to one way or the other be one of the leading countries at this stage of it.

I’m not sure what more evidence they need that what’s being provided?

...at least 2021 is starting to grow into something just as weird as 2020.
Crazy. Was once going to give up drinking for good (not that I drink much these days anyway) but I feel alcohol will normalise this strange landscape - bring on the openings.

More importantly....open the bleeding hairdressers. I'm having to wear hats in zoom calls now. I look like a post meltdown Syd Barrett ffs.
My youngest lad is a trained, self-employed barber in Albert Square and the NQ. He'd LOVE to give cuts today, like they can in Wales right now. Almost becoming as critical to me as the pubs re-opening !

Suspect that there is a degree of politics in this matter, with EU countries covering their backs because there is a dearth of vaccine, particularly coming from AZ. Better, instead, to have a moratorium that you can then use to explain why, over the next fortnight, quite so few are being vaccinated. Countries are saying they won't resume using it until the end of the month, irrespective of EMA approval, by which time I would imagine more supplies will serendipitously arrive from Pfizer.

It isn’t politics. Norway is not an EU country and has suspended the AZ vaccine. Thailand has done the same. Thailand is not in Europe.

There are differing attitudes and cultures to vaccines with places like Germany having an ultra conservative approach, so any anomalous readings or spikes, no matter how low, will lead to suspension.

Not everything is a plot, it’s just different ways of doing things.

For the record I got jabbed with AZ on Saturday and am feeling fine :)
