It is based on science. ‘The German government's vaccines agency, the Paul Ehrlich Institute, said since Thursday it had noticed a "striking accumulation" of cases of a rare kind of blood clot on the brain, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) in people who'd just had the vaccine’.

Now, the figures are small, but Germany is ‘risk adverse’ hence the suspension. You can argue that the case for continuing outweighs the risk of not vaccinating, but that is not the model Germany operates under.

So, yes, it is that simple, but it ain’t politics.

Also the EMA dissagree with that assessment.

Had another letter today asking me to continue to stay at home and shield until further notice, have had one jab already hope it's not for too long now.

Had you already received one advising you to shield till at least 31/03/21.

The worrying thing is that cases in Europe are being pushed up by the variant identified in the UK and they are holding off from using the UK vaccine for cautionary reasons and seemingly into a third wave as they are well behind vaccination levels there.

If Europe for these combined reasons ends up in a real mess then we will be very isolated indeed even if we avoid the consequences.

This has all the ingredients of a tragedy whoever turns out to be right. Just as it looked like we were inching our way towards victory.

But if you look at the wider data set that was presented in the twitter thread i posted, Those that had had the Pfizer vaccine experienced a higher ratio of blood clots than those that had the AZ. Something is not right Bob.

Pretty sure the Paul Erlich institute isn’t getting its data from Twitter :)

On a more serious note, they will only look and act upon German data, maybe there was a slightly bad batch, maybe the numbers are wrong, who knows, but it is their decision to make and the German people can judge them accordingly. Same goes for the other countries like Ireland who have suspended the AZ jab.

I think the countries concerned are being over cautious, but what the fuck do I know.

Germany still has 3 million over 80s unvaccinated. That is really sad in such a developed nation.

Seems crazy to suspend a vaccine that will save hundreds of lives for a possible risk which is less than that induced by the contraception pill even if it exists.

The decisions are not being made by politicians.

It's that simple.

I dissagree. Definitely a political edge to this if that data set is correct. Why are the governments ignoring the EMA advice.

It's not governments.

It's regulatory agencies.
