Christ, nearly a fifth of us would like a 10pm curfew permanently? So much for our famed ‘liberty of the individual’ outlook.

Mori polling for The Economist shows some Brits support anti-covid restrictions *permanently*, regardless of covid risk.

- 19% for nighttime curfews
- 26% for closing casinos and clubs
- 35% for travel quarantine
- 40% for masks
That's one demograhic of the Economist's readership isn't it? Not general public.

It’s ‘for the Economist’ not by the readers of the Economist. It’s a good example of the fear that the government and their psychological advisors have driven for 14 months and far more successfully than they could ever imagine….

The Dutch example should be of some interest to the U.K. Lifting the restrictions in one fell swoop saw cases rocket, predominantly amongst the young, and that’s a group whose vaccination uptake has slowed significantly. Circumstances are never entirely the same, of course, but we should all be receptive to learning from each other's experiences.
I note that France are where we were on the 25th June - only 2 weeks ago.

Spain and Portugal decided to open up for tourism and the delta variant duly arrived. Cases came back from Spain to the Netherlands when school-leaving holiday trips returned after staying in the same locations as visitors from the UK. Those embers only smouldered for two months, but the Dutch decision to lift practically all restrictions at the end of June simply poured paraffin on them. They’re now discussing reimposing sanctions.
Portugal's mostly came from there own Indian minority from Goa who travel to/from India like our minority does. Cases went up dramatically in Lisbon first. Holiday makers and Chelsea + City fans further North in Porto are much smaller beer by comparison.

Is it just me or have our Police force disappeared completely during COVID? Despite working from home, not seen a car/van/bobby on the beat for what feels like ages. They all got their feet up?

Probably the opposite - stretched, under staffed, and doing extra work than they've ever had to do. Police officer/social worker/mental health professionals/actual parents. Walking the beat and fighting crime? Those days are gone

From gov.uk

Percentage change if 7 day case rates.

Tf you go through different regions you find they are all quite similar. A spike for about 4-6 weeks and then some flat-lining. Those areas with low vaccine rates seem to continue to show slow growth after the main surge is over. What I think is going on is that it surges in the young and then burns out. Then it starts to rotate out from the young into other groups, at a lower rate of growth.

Those areas which has low vax rates see slow growth after the initial surge (Manchester), those areas with high vax rates flat-line afterwards (Bolton).

We supposedly delayed opening up to vaccinate more - not vaccinate less. I know the fact they cannot use AZ is the main problem but they knew that up front surely.

Like in N Ireland (see latest age range data earlier this afternoon) that Scotland age data is edging up as fewer children are catching it,

Any idea on the care home situation in Scotland? As it seems to be coming back in N Ireland,
I’m not sure if we know whether or not the AZ vaccine can be given if specifically requested. There was a discussion about this on Twitter between the NHS Director of Primary Care and a leader from the Royal College of GPs (last week). NHS England said they would answer through DMs so people are none the wiser.
