NORTHERN IRELAND DATA

As some go one way NI is sadly going very much in the other

2 deaths - was 1 last week

1973 cases - was 636 last week - tripled!

DELTA HAS WELL AND TRULY CROSSED THE IRISH SEA.

38.5% positivity - was 27% last week (different measures used in NI but going up is what matters)

40 Care Home Outbreaks - same as yesterday - was 16 last week

9088 weekly total cases - was 3977 last week

134 patients - up 16 on yesterday - was 72 last week

3 ventilated icu - was 2 yesterday & 1 last week

On the vaccinations in the EU front, many countries are currently jabbing at a rate close to or above our peak.

The bloc is still a month or so behind on total vaccinations, but catching rapidly. Equally, they're a month or so behind on the delta wave. No sign of significant vaccine hesitancy in any of the major countries, though some former soviet bloc States (Romania, Bulgaria, baltics) are way behind. Hungary is an outlier having rolled out the Russian jab earlier. Being in the EU didn't stop them, note.

So, as predicted at the "vaccine wars" stage, it's made little difference in the end.

we’ve been pretty much done on first jabs for the last 2 weeks, just picking up some stragglers the ones left simply don’t want it.

Think the next key decisions how the UK and EU go about pushing unvacc’d people towards their jabs before winter.

Be interesting to see it there’s any noticeable impact given the way the roll outs were done.

Very rigidly down groups 1-9 then by age group. Where as in the EU it seemed to be a lot more open to all ages earlier, have they started doing teenagers over there?

I reckon the EU method may have more of an impact on driving down spread but the UK more of an impact on hospitalisations/death rates.

Also there’s the theory that AZ is a slow burn and becomes more effective the longer after the 2nd jab.

.

This one is pretty good, couple of countries missing for sure, but scroll over time ^

Can't help but notice how Hungary ramped it up massively in the run up to the Euros, then fell away rapidly. I remember people gawping at the stadium and whispering about what a marvelous job they'd done with vaccinations. All for the show of it - as soon as the attention wasn't on them, they've stopped dead in the water.

Interesting, and hopeful for all of us, that some of the countries on that chart with the highest double vaxxed rates look to have falling or static cases.

Netherlands, Denmark, Portugal, maybe Belgium, Spain too. No idea what restrictions are in place, but it does suggest it's possible to get on top of Delta without it running riot or imposing lockdowns.

Seeing how quickly Netherlands turned it around very heartening.

So the UK deaths with out of hospital England to add are 78.

Last week it was 38 - so more than double week to week

That became 49 - 36 in England - 11 atop the hospital number.

There is a possibility we will top 100 today.

Face masks on public transport, nightclubs remain closed, and bars close at midnight. Those are the main restrictions in the Netherlands, though seating should be 1.5 metres apart. That is less of a concern however when many people use outdoor terraces in the summer.

Which shows cases have peaked. Deaths follow cases.
100 deaths is very acceptable versus the alternative even more cancers undiagnosed.

Was hoping we wouldn't reach 100 and wasn't expecting it to get this high this soon. On the flip side, I await today's UK case figures with interest because yesterday's were an indication that we just might have peaked in terms of case figures

Are schools out?
