Have all illnesses historically spread this quickly around the world population, for example chicken pox , the common cold or is the spread of this outside the norm?.

New Zealand vaccination rates catching up with the U.K. with a similar percentage of over 12s having the first jab (mid 80%s) but still a fair bit behind on full vaccination with 6 out of 10 Kiwis having both jabs.

Think it is dependent on how fast anything or anyone can travel around the world.

In the middle ages it was the speed of wind and what parts of the world anyone knew existed to get to.

In the 1917/18 Spanish Flu it was the speed of a steam powered ship taking troops home - days to cross the Atlantic, Weeks to get around the world.

In 2020 it was the speed of the fastest jet and hours to go from top to bottom of the globe.

This afternoon it was minutes if any of the crew with Captain Kirk going in a rocket had Covid to take it to edge of outer space.

THIS is why Covid is an unprecedented pandemic. Progress has created the perfect scenario for this to happen just as we have expected for years.

If you have not seen it watch the movie Contagion made a decade ago.

It was a science fiction drama in cinemas then. Ten years on it is pretty much a documentary.

Yes it's called catching it before metrological winter starts when viral loads in enclosed spaces will be much higher.
See Whitty presentations from July onwards

This has never been stated as strategy.

What passes as strategy is here.

It is the opposite of what you state, emphasising the need to limit transmission.
