we're not in winter yet though either. the Winter spike is what we're starting to see in Europe now.

Flu season is driven by the same pattern and that's Dec/Jan/Feb.. while we have certainly "flattened the curve" as it were with the way we have handled it, there will be a winter increase in my view.

Small point, it was Alpha ( Kent ) this time last year. Delta was April/May this year. its why the final unlocking was delayed a few weeks.

Also no new variant will be less likely to kill you yet. its our immunity ( Natural and Vaccine ) that is helping make it more like a common cold. anyone unvaxxed and not had it is at the same risk as before.

No one knows do they, but at the moment I’d say there is as much chance of it going up and down but never getting out of hand that there is of cases increasing massively.

That’s been predicted time and time again but never materialised. Not since the vaccine anyway.

Agreed. im just using my gut feeling at the moment. Logic being , more people in doors will mean more cases etc and the repercussion that has.

But personally I don't see any mountainous spike occurring like we had in Jan 2021.. probably a gradual surge over dec/jan/feb.

Hospital wise the biggest risk I think is Covid+flu combo this year. thats where the main risks will come into it in terms of overloading. flu regularly pushes hospitals hard each year as it is.

Again, Personal opinion. I would introduce a mask mandate for the next 3 months to assist in bringing down cases of both flu and Covid to help mitigate any issues that may occur as a proactive move.

Not that I think we'll be able to put that mandate in place in the UK now though.

never been this bad
ache all over
Can barely walk about
Head is pounding
Non stop running nose
And dry cough
Its endless
Forgot to ask: are you taking (or were given by a Doc) anything for this?

I went to the Docs on Tues eve and he seemed pretty convinced it was viral rather than bacterial (lungs clear on stethoscope interrogation) but I'm absolutely no better since then. Same symptoms as you descibe albeit with heavy emphasis on the constant coughing.
Not sure what else I can do but sit it out....can't concentrate on much at all and brief walk was a really odd feeling (v spacey/dizzy).

From someone who takes all the vits (even bloody quality matcha green tea!), exercise regularly etc....it's a royal kick in the nads.

Hope you fix up soon mate.

My kids are now ‘vaccine tourists’. Needed to get them a second dose of Pfizer so we can travel to Canada at Christmas. Exhausted all options in UK and the NHS are basically refusing, so we flew them to Ireland for the day. They registered them a week ago and jabbed them today no problem, so now we’re good to go.

Something to consider if any of you are in a similar predicament for your 12-17 year olds.

Two things. Why is the case rate higher in Wales where they retained the mask mandate? The logic behind getting as many people infected during the summer months when the virus is at it’s weakest is clear and obvious, we now have many more people with immunity should a winter wave hit.
It's hard to pinpoint exactly why the case rate is higher in Wales right now. I don't know the reason, but I'd argue it's because schools in Wales only received a 1-week half-term (week commencing 25/10) whereas most schools in the UK had two weeks (starting the week prior). We know the spread is coming primarily from school children.

Also worth noting that countries like Spain who are handling this wave better (so far) mandate masks for high school students and teachers (whereas we don't in the UK) and that they've been vaccinating school children more quickly and more efficiently than us.

Even though Wales has stricter rules around wearing masks, people aren't adhering to the rules as much as they are in some other countries.

You're correct, we have more people with immunity. We've also had many more deaths. Many more people suffering from long COVID. The hospital waiting list is still at record-breaking levels. A&E waiting times are still high. A better plan would have been sensible and minimal restrictions (Wearing masks, vaccine/negative test passports for major events, isolating if a member of your household tests positive regardless of your vax status, working from home where possible) which would have bought more time to vaccinate school children properly (the government will follow the rest of the world eventually and allow school children to have the full 2 doses rather than a single shot, just like they did recently with over 17s.... too slow on this) and dish out boosters to our more vulnerable residents. That's just my opinion though.

Utterly crazy that we're having to do shit like this when the rest of the world has been safely vaccinating children for months now! We're too slow!

Tell me about it. And I’m about £500 worse off for it. I had a lot of sympathy when stating my case, and even a letter from my doctor asking for it on my behalf, but zero movement. I offered to pay. There is no good reason to not allow it in such cases.
