Coronavirus (2021) thread

I genuinely believe this will be the straw that breaks the camel's back if they insist on this. I've been very fucking compliant, to great detriment to my mental health, even basically permanently damaging relationships with my family members who all disagree on this. I just can't reasonably go along with this if they really think keeping people apart forever until Covid disappears permanently is a reasonable request. I can't imagine i'll be alone with this view.

My brother for one. I've literally come to blows with him over it as I've been furious with his Bill Gates nonsense and putting my parents in danger by breaking the rules. How can I tell him he's even wrong if it happens though?!

To be fair, I don't recall any promises, as such. The media are whipping everyone up too much, all nations need to walk through this pandemic, not run, and it really is an ever-changing situation as the data comes through. Personally I do expect more freedoms to come (controlled environments like schools, restaurants etc), but we won't be going back to normal for some time I expect, the social distancing will be for a while yet.

Sadly, the risk is not just for yourself but to those around you, so no, it's not just your choice. At some point though, once we have quick vaccination programmes for everyone who wants one - hopefully later this year - then there'll come a point when we can say if you don't want one then it's your choice, but we're a bit away from that yet.

Keep the spirit, mate, we'll get there.

Matt Hancock literally fake cried on TV saying he was relieved that we could now get our lives back. Boris has said repeatedly about Spring and significantly normality. They have implied so many times that we're near the end.

Define impact! They can seriously fuck off if they think I won't be hugging my parents for the rest of the year if vaccines work and cases/deaths basically disappear like they did in the summer. They'll lose an awful lot of public confidence too. It's unreasonable to expect 0 deaths and 0 cases. Never gonna happen.
They can’t stop you, they’ll probably just ask you to avoid doing it.

Unless I've misunderstood, does social distancing till Autumn not just mean not having someone breathing on your neck in the supermarket for a few more months, or being limited to groups of six like last summer again? Or are people reading that like we will be in lockdown till autumn?
Yes think there is some over reaction to it, social distancing until autumn, when the first vaccination round is complete, can mean many things, from light distancing to heavier measures.

Your not alone mate I've done the same and I'm now waking up to the fact that the people everyone called lunatics and conspiracy nuts were right all along. This has now become more frightening than any virus. Boris and his mob just move the finishing line as we arrive exhausted at the tape. With everyone getting vaccinated, death rates and hospital admissions falling how can he predict we have to stay locked down for another eight months?? He can't unless he's making it up as he goes along. Even the so called scientists can't predict what a virus will do months ahead so that buffoon sure can't.

We are going to see civil unrest in this country on a scale never seen before and it's totally necessary unless we want to be home imprisoned forever. That's our only way out, not Boris and his mad boffins roadmap to nowhere.

I'm not sure that's what's meant.
Assuming they have been vaccinated, why wouldn't you be able to hug them?
The risk would be to yourself if you haven't had it or been vaccinated. That's your choice.

I get the impression social distancing will just be a general thing when in public spaces.

Yeah I know what you mean. This is a right kick in the bollocks. This summer is something we've all been chomping at the bit at. Euros, pubs open and beers with the lads, break away somewhere. Very depressing news but I suppose we have to trust the government/scientists on this.

I have had a read of a few reports. I don't see any issue with wearing a mask and staying a meter away from someone in Asda. There is nothing in any report I read that says the pubs will not be opening or that you can not go to your mates.

Social distancing means no hugging of family and friends. That's the bit that will cause a shit storm. Couldn't give a fuck about the pub.

I think as an individual you have to adopt a bit of common sense. If both of your parents are vaccinated fully, go round and give them a hug for the first time in 18 months. once this full lockdown is relaxed a bit.

The government can't publicly endorse that because it'll mean people start thinking its OK to mix all the time, and people will start going to see Granny who's had 1 jab, or Granddad who had his first jab yesterday.

If anybody believes that a government that has this current level of control over its people will give it up easily should probably read a history book or two.

It's not ridiculous to suggest that the longer this goes on the more it becomes about controlling people and less about controlling a virus.

This is exactly what ill be doing...weird ill be breaking the law though!

They're not exactly giving us the impression that this is the last one with things like this Autumn nonsense are they?
What Autumn nonsense ? It's all conjecture at the moment. If we do end up with disproportionately stricter measures, then yes I'll be totally pissed off but until I hear anything official I won't be concerning myself in anticipation.

They were wrong then. I don't personally watch the daily briefings or interviews because I'm in a position to deduce the situation myself from the data and the information the scientists release. I don't share my findings other than with family and friends though. What the government are trying to do is balance the fight with the virus, the economy and the expectations of people who are struggling with the restrictions, and I think that's a difficult task. One of the first things I said to my family at the start of this was that the information released needs to be done in a way to control people's expectations - they should be told what they need to know when they need to know and not before - and the MPs have been very hit-and-miss on this, but the media keep pushing them for answers and they keep falling for it.
