I saw a quote from Merkel earlier saying that by the end of March/ early April they (Germany & the EU) will have more vaccine supply than they could roll out. That is very promising as clearly they will have visibility of what is in the pipeline so she is saying that supply will be hugely expanded. As the UK has firm orders for the current approved vaccines and we are in the front of the queue then you'd expect our supply will be far bigger by then too.

When the second shots are due in big numbers then we'll need to double our current rate to keep giving first shots to younger groups but if supply isn't a constraint then this is easy to achieve.
 
Good news today btw - on two fronts.

Despite a small cases rise in England today NW cases are down - and no longer the highest in England - and so are Greater Manchester's cases down 170 to 736.

By chance exactly the same as Tuesday - when there were nearly 3000 fewer cases so todays 736 is a lower fraction of the UK than it was three days ago showing a pro rata fall for the county.

GM was up to its highest % split of the North West since October yesterday at 42.6% of the total. But it has dropped to 41.9% today.

Every GM borough bar Manchester under 100. And most falling week to week including Manchester. We will have half the boroughs with a weekly Pop score under 200 tonight too. And none above mid 200s. Which is a great hallmark of falling cases.

Trafford is still top of the pile and catching Stockport for best overall GM pop score, But Stockport fought back a bit today and only lost 1 not the big numbers of late. So it might not be over.

Shame we didn't get to hear that on BBC etc today after the joy they took in the battle of words over supplies a fortnight ago.
 
The other good news is from the England hospital data. Big fall again and tonight just 19, 009 in hospital (down 974 today and versus 24, 402 last Friday.

And at 2688 a fall of 92 in ventilated patients and versus 3217 last Friday.

Every region falls today

North West fell from 2916 patients to below first wave levels at 2754. A week ago it was3440.

And ventilators were down 12 to 314 (well below first wave levels now) . A week ago it was above there at 354.

There are just 22. 340 in hospital in the UK now - last Friday it was 28, 353 and 33, 834 two weeks ago andpeaked on 18 January at 39, 236.

So nearly 17,000 less in hospital - not far short of half - in just 25 days.

There were 21, 687 in hospital at the peak of Wave 1. They just said on ITV News we are still above the first wave peak but gave no actual numbers (and if they did it would likely not be todays as gov uk is not fully up to date) .

We are still above that number as you can see but by just 653 and we fell by more than that every day this week.

So not - I suspect - for long will that statement be true.

if you are a middle class family you are having nice family time. your kids are probably getting good home schooling , warm weather soon it’s going to be lovely .

If you are a family of 4 living in a tower block you won’t feel like we are all in this together and your kids are probably not getting a good home schooling experience , or any kind of happy families

if you have a little high independent street shop or restaurant in Manchester you think you can survive throughout this forever ?

don’t even get me started on footballers, soap stars and daytime tv hosts who not only can get on with their jobs and lives but seemingly all have their hairs nicely cut to a good style or styled for the females.

I thought all barbers and hairdressers were closed in the uk ? How is that possible ? Oh they are famous and on telly so that’s ok. Those rules just apply to us plebs.

Well we have been working all the time. Those public sector people are helping those who are sick, supporting vulnerable people, performing surgical procedures, educating children, putting out fires, emptying your bins, cleaning your streets, repairing your roads, processing benefits and managing furlough. With many of them risking their own health and that of their families. Many of them under a great deal of pressure. Several have died too while performing their job.

You could have picked a better example.

Not surprising though.
Positive news followed by negative ad nauseam.
I can't see any other way at the moment...let's give it a couple more weeks of data and see where we are.
 
I was reading that Israel are only going to be opening facilities for those who have been vaccinated. I can see this causing problems if that happens here. Society opens up for those over a given age but not for those under for a few more months or so. I can’t see that catching on here. Might not be a reliable source though so who knows.

It might work once workplaces start getting vaccines to dish out.
 
For those wondering when they or their family members might get their first shot of the vaccine then scroll down this article to the list of priority groups and the numbers in each. You might be surprised at how soon you might be eligible as even at the current rate of around 3.5 million first shots a week they will zip through them. I'm in the 65-69 group and I'm getting my first shot on Monday. At the current rate this group would be done in less than a week even at 100% take up (which no group will be). The next group is 16-64 with underlying conditions and this is two weeks worth and then down to everyone 50 to 64 is less than three weeks worth. I'm sure that when supply increases then the weekly rate will shoot up.
