It doesn’t need to mutate though as, although the vaccines don’t completely stop it transmitting, they are undoubtedly assisting with not ‘killing the host’, which is a win-win for the virus and us.
well I guess we're reaching the same conclusion, if Delta is happy as it is (not that it has a conscious say but you get the point) and doesn't mutate then it's a lot better for us than if it did, or another variant was able to take hold and cause us even more trouble.

NORTHERN IRELAND DATA

SOME BETTER NEWS HERE TODAY TOO

4 deaths - was 2 last week

1349 cases - was 1276 last week

5.9% positivity - was 5.7% last week -- UP but not by much

9052 weekly cases - was 8996 yesterday & 8295 last week - still rising slowly

65 CARE HOME OUTBREAKS - DOWN FROM 67 YESTERDAY & 69 LAST WEEK - MUCH BETTER NEWS

348 patients - UP 3 on yesterday - was 360 last week

22 ventilated - DOWN 5 on yesterday - was 28 last week

So the four nations deaths with out of hospital England to come are:- 120 - WITH 7 IN NORTH WEST (LOWEST NW SHARE OF UK IN SOME TIME)

Last week at this stage the number was 111 (though about 10 of those deaths in Wales were from the double day numbers last week so it was really nearer 100). However, 111 is the official count, of course.

On all settings that later became 150 as England added 39 - to Total 109 - to the 70 in hospital.

THE OUT OF HOSPITAL ENGLAND NUMBERS HAVE BEEN GOING UP NOTICEABLY WHICH IS WHY I HAVE MY CONCERNS OVER THE UNREPORTED CARE HOME SITUATION GIVEN WHAT WE KNOW HAPPENED IN NORTHERN IRELAND.

The three nation cases with England to add total today:- 7241

Hard to compare with last week as the total was officially 5705 added to there from Welsh data which was messed up last weekend by a data issue that lasted a day or two.

The two nation (without Wales) number today is 4111 V 3903 last week. And with Wales 7241 V 9608

Either way England last Friday added 32, 157 to create a UK total of 41, 765

Yesterday England had 38, 488 cases - which was the HIGHEST total in England since 21 July.

So we could well be looking at 45K or above again today in the UK.

SCOTLAND DATA

THIS IS A BIT GOOD AND BAD BUT SOME IS VERY GOOD

32 deaths - was 16 last week - obviously a big jump here not good

2762 cases - was 2627 last week - up but not by a lot

8.2% positivity - was 7.9% last week - as above

851 patients - down 57 on yesterday - was 957 last week

45 ventilated icu - down 5 on yesterday - was 64 last week

So at least the hospital numbers are much better - though 32 deaths may have
I admire your tendency to put a positive slant on the daily figures but surely in this case whilst there is some very good news there is also some very bad news- the deaths and the upward trend?

Interesting to see how things will pan out down under now Aus is starting to open up and presumably NZ next.

Both countries have already administered more vaccine doses per capita than the US, and have about the same number of people with at least one dose as we do. Impressive stuff once they got going.

Their death tolls are a tiny fraction of ours, and lest anyone claims an overcrowded island like ours could never achieve this, Japan isn't far behind.

145 all settings deaths - 94 in England - 25 out of hospital

44, 932 cases - down 134 on yesterday & UP 3167 on last Friday.

England only 37, 691 - down 797 on yesterday & UP 5534 on last Friday

980, 883 pillar 1 & 2 tests today V 1, 045, 158 yesterday & 947, 795 last week

Japan doesn't have anything like the number if Covidiots and anti vaxers that we do.

GM AND NW SUMMARY

NOT AS GOOD A DAY ON THE DAY FOR GM AS YESTERDAY BUT PRETTY GOOD WEEK TO WEEK

AND ZOE WAS RIGHT AGAIN. WORST DAY WAS IN STOCKPORT - BACK ON TOP OF THE PILE, SADLY

NW actually FELL day to day by 27 to 5295

Unfortunately, GM was UP 118 on the day to 1800.

Small numbers mitigate but not a good day obviously,

Week to week is more important for trends and WAS better happily.

NW is UP from 4507 - a rise of 788 on last week.

GM is up too from 1641 to 1800 - a rise of 159.

159 from the NW rise of 788 is well below par and so a much better day on this measure V the NW.

Stockport is well up on the day to 279 and top scores and is up 32 week to week too. So no question it had the worst day in GM exactly as Zoe predicted.

Though it did STILL just stay below 100 Pop rise and at 95 gained another 9 on Trafford whose Pop rise was 104. So on that measure Trafford was the worst. So hard to call between the two runaway problem boroughs in GM right now. As on 247 they were up 44 on the day but DOWN 29 week to week. But like Stockport will now find falls from smaller but still high numbers harder to achieve.

Manchester on 256 was sandwiched between these two andon 56 up week to week loses ground to them both.

Wigan is up too on 219 and up 24 week to week.

Pretty much everyone is up week to week APART FROM Tameside who are having a much better run of things right now and on 119 down 44 week to week.

Oldham was up quite a bit day to day and week to week (on 140) but avoided going into the 17 K club as GMs first occupant until tomorrow. But it will do so then as it would have to score around 20 cases to avoid it and I think you can bet on that not happening right now!
