Just a headline. Details in the other thread, but the good news is the lowest cases for a month reported in England today. Good start to the weekend to cheer you up.

Good news indeed - significant week to week drop now evident in cases, though hospitalisation flat and deaths steadily increasing.

Hopefully the case drops will feed through into those, and boosters will also stay to impact them. Need those boosters boosting!

I would not say the hospital numbers are flat in England and Scotland over the last two or three days.

Wales and N Ireland is not doing the same I agree but England & Scotland are the big majority of the numbers in the UK. And the fall this week in England stands out to me after a month of going up.

No arguments there. I was quoting overall uk weekly, which is 3.5% up week on week (deaths up 12%)

Future trends very unpredictable atm.

I agree especially with the shift in age ranges - fewer under 20 - more over 60. That will move the balance of more serious illness and death as we progress if the booster jabs do not restrict it in the older ages over the coming two months. As hopefully they will.

The younger boom in cases is over and is why numbers are down but it leaves a lower case level with a higher risk profile. Not sure how that will balance out in the weeks to come.

There are large numbers of vaccinated people catching and spreading covid so what is the vaccine passport for exactly?
I am pro-vaccination but believe this is a fair point. It seems to me that the horse has bolted. I think it might make sense for a country with low infection rates to have vaccine passports but I can't see the point in the UK where the experts have told us that more than 90 per cent of people have some form of immunity either from vaccination or having had Covid. Personally I don't think the Government will introduce it on a large scale.

Christmas this year is going to be very hard to judge right. A lot caught it last Christmas and there were at least some though temporarily reduced restrictions then and no other risks around like flu.

This year all restraints will be off, the belief this is largely done is widespread and super colds and flu will be around as well as Covid. Family gatherings could brew up quite a storm. But nobody is going to stop them happening with abandon this year.

It may be in the lap of the Gods and the efficacy of the vaccines and the boosters especially how we fare over the holidays.

I caught what I thought was a cold in Tenerife a few weeks ago. As I was there for four weeks I thought dose myself up with cold relief tablets for a couple of nights and I'd be fine. It wiped me out for a week, horrible irritating cough and is still lingering a week after I got home. I tested negative for covid so I guess as you say super colds are loving the ability to spread again

My sense of smell and taste is shot and has been for months, I am double jabbed don't know if I have had this covid or not because I just stayed in anyway, when I thought I had it I didn't go for a test because the advice was just to stay at home until it became unbearable and you needed hospital help.

Had it myself, 10 days on still violently coughing and generally feeling shit. When does it become ‘long common-cold’?

That must be a worry. Presumably she has had all her jabs? If so she should be fine. My friend has had every illness going and been ten times more active in travelling the UK than I have in the past year and just seems to be OK regardless. The vaccines have made such a difference to how things were this time last year thank goodness.

no she is anti vax. Had none.

By the way - my friend in her 80s on the vulnerable list is FINALLY getting her booster (at the Etihad) on Sunday.

She would’ve been eligible for ages surely? I know you’ve posted about her frustrations but surely you don’t need to wait for the doctors to give you a ring?

My mum is in her mid 60s, no health conditions and was booked in for her booster a couple of weeks ago but had to cancel as she had a cold. She’s having it done on Thursday now.

Your friend will have been way above her in the pecking order..?

Evidence for vitamin D as a covid preventative/ treatment is very weak, despite much online hype.

Take it by all means, but don't expect any transformative results. For more general health benefits, quoting from your linked article, " only a moderate beneficial effect in a small proportion of participants in the current study", which is a pretty weak case for foodstuff fortification.

From an epidemiologist with links to the relevant academic studies:

The research has nothing to do with Covid.

Had my Pfizer booster Wednesday, Thursday felt terrible, shivering, aching muscles, light headed and no energy.
Friday I felt fine.

Thank god we all live in a country where this is available and free. I was reading that most African countries are about 1.5% vaccinated, PNG similar. Figures for other 3rd world countries arent much better.
