We just aren't seeing the surge in hospitalisations this time. Nothing like the surge in cases anyway.
Either the booster is doing a hell of a job or this strain is milder (or both)
Coupled with some of the lowest vaccination rates in the UK. It won't end well for some.it’s about a 7 day lag As you say. But London where this is first kicking off has doubled it’s hospital admissions in the last 7 days.
100 to 200 but could easily be delta driving that for now.
I've just seen that. Curfew on all Hospitality at 8p.m until 30th January.have you seen the breaking news on Ireland,i bet their pissed off
Just watching the NW news and positive cases up 76% in London in a week compared to 11% in the NW. Hospitalisations do look on the up in London.it’s about a 7 day lag As you say. But London where this is first kicking off has doubled it’s hospital admissions in the last 7 days.

There is a lot more detail on the Data thread about the hospital numbers across all the regions.it’s about a 7 day lag As you say. But London where this is first kicking off has doubled it’s hospital admissions in the last 7 days.

What amazes me is that it's OK until 8pm, like you cant pass it on before then. Looking like doing something isn't the same as doing something IMO.
I haven't got the answers but I suspect this isn't it.
i think the answer is we crack on however we must protect the elderly and others at risk but we must get on and live with this now, i hear today that 450 people have died from cancer, how many Omicron deaths today? but we dont chase people up for cancer testingWhat amazes me is that it's OK until 8pm, like you cant pass it on before then. i know we need more data but the news from sth africa is consistent

There are currently 65 people with Omicron in hospital. Early days though yet so could rise. There is a lot more detail on the Data thread about the hospital numbers across all the regions.
Suffice to say there clearly IS a rise in areas where Omicron is high. London is by far and away the most up and even today when patients FELL in England they would have fallen a lot more but for the increase in London and a much smaller one in the North West.
So Omicron is starting to drive numbers up but they are not yet anything like you mght expect for the giant rises in case numbers in London over the past week - trippled to 26,608 today alone in a week. And over 110,000 cases in the past week have produced 369 additional patients in London over the last 7 days as the % of them likely to be Omicron rose daily to around three quarters now.
If that sticks when it is all Omicron and cases and admissions match up date wise when adjusted for the lag then it is a hospitalisation rate of around 0.3% Three in a thousand cases.
Jesus. And with any support from the Government?Hospitality in Ireland is to have an 8pm curfew imposed on it from Monday for a period of 30 days, which will be kept under review. An advisory Committee had recommended a 5pm curfew.

'Massive rise in infection' warning ahead of new curbs
Taoiseach Micheál Martin has announced new restrictions to try to curb the spread of the Omicron Covid-19 variant as he warned of a "massive rise in infection" ahead.www.rte.ie
That number will rise by a lot. As soon almost all the 100,000 plus cases a day will be Omicron. So nearly all new inpatients will be.There are currently 65 people with Omicron in hospital. Early days though yet so could rise.
Don't think so.Jesus. And with any support from the Government?
