Coronavirus (2022) thread

Based on learnings about how antibodies wane after about 3 months. after we built a massive wall of resistance with Vaccines etc loads of people wane at the same time and the next wave forms.
Id like to think this will eventually fade to background noise but doesn't seem to be showing signs of it.

I read it takes around Five years from a start of a pandemic to it easing down

I was 11 days from positive to negative.
Likewise although the first time I contracted a different strain it took 5 days and I was feeling as normal as an old fart could I suppose.

Second time round I was not much chop and spent a while in a public hospital compounded by the worst bout of constipation I have ever had by a long way.

On average its a lot more invasive and a much higher death rate than even the most invasive of influenza strains.

here in oz albeit we are almost back to pre covid day to day living and activity around 50 people per day are perishing due to or with or from complications with covid in the state of Victoria for example at least what the Health Authorities are reporting albeit that number seems somewhat odd given the number of hospitalisations and on ICU at much lower levels than when fewer daily deaths were being reported.

While I don't trust the figures being released worldwide ie a lot more deaths and a lot more cases than reported its interesting that in the media there is little reporting on a daily basis here in oz at least where cases and deaths are much higher than 2 years ago when politicians , media ( in the main ) etc were behaving as if the end of the world as we know it was nigh unless we locked ourselves in our homes.

The fatality level has significantly fallen and, as the numbers I posted here yesterday show, there are far fewer in hospital and in ICU with the 2022 waves than with the 2020 ones.

So the vaccines and repeatedly catching it is building real protection.

Whether it will ever disappear entirely is unclear. The Spanish Flu that killed millions at the end of World War One is still around in a much mutated form but nobody fears it and most forget it even existed as it is nothing like as deadly now.

Same will happen with Covid. Though it hopefully will be a similarly unnotable threat sooner than a century. As of course was that flu.

The vaccines have cut the edge off this and many now entering hospital probably only find out they have Covid after doing so for other reasons as routine testing is nothing like it was.

What’s the point of the media reporting it? People had Covid fatigue and were literally posting “doom mongers” if anything in anyway negative was published about the virus.

It hasn’t and won’t go away, but it does seem to be milder than it used to be and vaccines will be helping stop people getting seriously ill.

Reporting will only come back if the hospitals can’t cope.

We also know a lot more about the virus than we did during the lockdowns, so we don’t need to make knee jerk reactions now. Australia locked down hard and less people died as a result. The very notion that people are still dying from it shows that lockdowns prevented people dying in the Beta and Delta variants.

As people said all along, we all have to die of something. Lockdowns were imposed to keep hospitals functioning.

I didn’t know what was going to happen when I got it. I tend to get pretty bad colds, so was worried. In the end, I had 4 days of a bad throat, 2 weeks without taste and smell and slightly bunged up and tired.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I doubt many countries would change their policies on lockdowns in 2020, apart from those wishing they’d locked down sooner and more stringently.

As best as one can the facts should be reported and I have no qualms if daily death numbers are still reported and available such as world meter albeit they cannot be accurate for many obvious reasons especially in third world countries , autocratic ruled and the list goes on.

Daily case numbers reported in oz for many months are well below the real numbers because of RAT's and the like and individuals having to report the positive case and the fact that many governments cannot afford to pay people for staying at home for too long that cannot work from home and if you locked down for too long you soon would have far too many other issues to cope with as we now know and should have known without the benefit of hindsight.

New pandemics might mean new responses are best required to minimise deaths but lockdowns per say to whole communities / regions / shires /countries is a new phenomenon and I would be surprised if governments decided on lockdowns on a mass scale again , its too autocratic and has limited gains.

It’s a shame that this pandemic coincided with the height of populism. We had idiots in charge all over the globe when it started.

Hopefully, when the next pandemic hits, we’ll have proper leaders back in charge and people are more savvy at calling out conspiracy theories.

I'd be suprised if most people with covid (heavy cold) are even bothering to take a test nowadays
I reckon you are spot on BH especially the young and working , maybe semi retired and retired and those in nursing home , aged care , disability care etc and other high risk occupations numbers are much closer to the real numbers.

the number of cases per say on a moving average appears to be on a downward trend but I suspect it will wave again upwards in the UK winter for example.

BTW your Beatles thread is a ripper , I am actually on 2 and by the time I log on I am often too late but you have stumped me on a number of them and I thought I knew a little about Beatles trivia.

Unfortunately I doubt it AHT , the West is fairly weak at present in leadership political leadership that is , real leadership that is and I suspect the individual will make better choices for themselves next time around which I think won't be too long away.

At least the US president can still think people who have passed on may return in human form very quickly so if he is still around there definitely is no need for any lockdowns.

Something may trigger the need for adults to be in charge again. Hopefully soon.
