Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

The domestic season feels like its over but I am keen to see the Champions League. Other sports are returning too. Today the transport secretary was outlining changes to the transport infrastructure to enable a more general return whilst the Stay at Home, Save Lives logo has changed. Football's moves are compatible with what is happening in the rest of society, and whilst this might be a period to endure, and survive, for some it might make life more bearable and give us something to look forward to. I thought City's Champions League hopes had vanished so I am hoping that those games are played. Hopefully by the time they come around, Ciy fans will actually enjoy them.

I know life is grim but we should embrace things that make us feel better and sport has traditionally enabled some to do that.
you are a very good and interesting poster and I look forward to reading your opinions 99.9% of the time, however in this thread you come across as having zero fucking life, your desperation to watch football that is so watered down that it will not look or feel like the game we know and love is amazing, just to break up the hours, find something to do, in stead of sitting in front of the telly with you KDB underpants on tissue at the ready and fuck the worlds health attitude coz im bored.

The Premier league is on very thin ice, they are making themselves look complete fools and greedy beyond belief.

The bubble has burst and reality is going to hit it very, very hard.
Ideally I am sure that football clubs would like to say to their players, the game is off whilst we have an infection but football is locked into the capitalist world and has been so for decades. The broadcasting deal is a major part of the UK football's revenue as is match-day income. These revenue streams are under threat. If you want football to surrender its revenues then they will cut expenses and where does that end?

As much as I agree with you, I dont think the football authorities are that thick. If that was to happen I can see a real shit storm happening. If it restarts it has to finish to save any integrity it has left ! Which wouldnt be much in my eyes

They aren't thick but it has been clear what they are up to and have been up to for some seasons. I read that the new PL CEO had been vetted by MANUre and The Dippers. What's that all about? They are more concerned about being in a hole where there aren't any games, not even behind closed doors, and have to stump up 100's of millions that they appear not to have, to the TV companies! The Dippers title would be icing on the cake. But I wouldn't put it past them, if the fixtures don't conclude, to award The Dippers their mess of pottage. For a title to be awarded without clearly winning it in mathematical terms would be much the same as awarding a goal without the ball crossing the line! But I wouldn't put that past the PL and FA.

The whole world is locked into capitalism, what makes football so special? There are HUGE companies, HUGE banks that will be fucked after this. This is the realisation that every company and industry is having, how do we get through this due to restrictions? However, football is being treated differently by the people controlling the restrictions which is wrong and should be called out as such.

Football will be watered down but it's either watered down football or no football. It's like when Jimmy McGill was in the desert carrying around his own urine. In the end he was forced to drink it.

Football has sold its soul to the TV companies.
No problem with that, but , don't insult the match going fans whom continue to make football what it is, they create the drama, passion and emotion.Without them you have nothing.
The price of match tickets have become outrageous, the kick off times, more and more inconvenient, just to keep the armchair fans happy.
Problem comes when the armchair fans turns on the big match and sees thousands of empty seats, atmosphere is gone, emotion has gone and the passion on and off the field has gone.
The match going fan has had enough and so will the armchair fan.
The covid situation has and will illuminate this problem. Football in an empty stadium is not right and I for one will wait until it's safe to attend a game. And even as a armchair fan, I don't want to see a top football match in a empty stadium.
