Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Do you accept the 15 minute rule is made up nonsense ?
I accept it’s an arbitrary figure in the same way that 2metres is but common sense suggests that the longer you spend in close proximity to a carrier, the more likely you are to catch it. I guess if the science behind these recommendations was definitive the situation might not have become quite as grave as it did.

And that is why I social distance and try to avoid any close contact, whether 15 minutes or not which is just the opposite of what footballers are being asked to do. Further if I thought I had the virus I am asked to self isolate for 14 days. if only I was a footballer.

They’re outside though, it makes a big difference

It isn't. The chance of infection is directly dependent on the amount of virus which you take into your respiratory system, and that is a function of distance, time, and the environment which you are in. See this article by a Professor of Biology who explains it really well and which also provides examples of case histories https://www.erinbromage.com/post/the-risks-know-them-avoid-them

If PHE and the CMO say that outdoor sport is OK, I think you should accept it unless you have evidence to the contrary. The results of testing suggest it's OK.

These arguments were fair enough in the teeth of the epidemic when we didn't really know what was going on but it's just a daft argument when approximately 1 in 1600 people in England have the virus and the effects on the young, in general, have been shown to be slight.
