Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

SKY has convinced juve to bring back their players even though they have 3 confirmed cases in their first team, and Italy riddled with deaths .
This is the start of SKY campaign to play behind closed doors which no doubt will extend to the EPL, it is time for the players union to stamp out all talk of a resumption of play before the pandemic has ceased totally, although it would be funny watching footballers following government demands and staying 6 feet away from each other

If clubs were to resume training or playing they would have some players who had recovered from the virus, some that hadn’t yet had the virus and some that currently had the virus. The mix would vary from club to club. Some might not have an available goalkeeper. It would be impossible to resume playing matches on a fair basis.

Even if the players agreed to play, the support staff who are needed to put on a game might not, especially medical staff.

if matches were played the potential for litigation would be huge, if say a team is relegated after being forced to play with a weakened squad.

the idea of playing games behind closed doors any time soon is a complete nonsense

A few of them have gone home
Thanks for that Karen, do we know who they are?
I want their mental health to be as strong as possible. Having seen snippets of media coverage in the past, the likes of Sergio seems to have quite an isolated existence in normal times, I hope he's staying strong and not too lonely, plus the others too.
I would guess there is more likelihood the players, living on their own, without close family support will feel most isolated?

How funny would it be if it resumed and Liverpool still needed 2 wins and van dick and mane had to self isolate and they pleaded for postponed games

I doubt sky are doing that

The Lawn Tennis Association still not finally decided on whether to go ahead with Wimbledon but they immediately ruled out playing behind closed door. Meanwhile the football powers that be continue with their optimistic hopes getting LivArpool the title whilst many clubs and the broadcasters think only of money, saying it will be good for morale with little consideration that the disease could spread easily and add to the death toll.
Sheer idiocy and naked greed in bed together.

They shouldn't actually need to be asked to be fair, they have money beyond most of our comprehension, Pep has showed the way, the players could in some cases do even more, and still be stupid rich.
Indeed, I don't think many will be fretting about how Aguero or Salah are managing at this time.
