Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

The players union are in on it, otherwise they'd have instructed their members to urge for an immediate cancellation of the season, purely on H & S grounds.
This is probably close to the mark. But, I’m pretty sure that the government will not be allowing mass gatherings until this is under control. What people fail to understand is that this virus KILLS, maybe not the initial carrier, but potentially those in the vicinity. It doesn’t discriminate!!!!!

Well, weirdly, it does appear to discriminate, although the scientists can't explain it, as yet. It's clear that ethnic groups are being hit disproportionately hard.
And of course, the elderly are more at risk. But that's just because our systems (and I appear to be included in that group, although that doesn't feel in the least bit real to me) are more feeble. Spoke to my mother-in-law on the phone the other night, to wish her a happy 96th! She's got all her wits about her, is not bedridden, and reads voraciously. She's very frail, and fairly hard of hearing. As you would be. She's being very careful, not leaving the apartment at all. But has a shared garden for the block of flats to walk around in.

If I was the owner of a Premier league club I would have been looking at how much I am paying to my stars (for them not to play).

I would be arranging negative media reports about what stupidity players are getting up to.

Then I would furlough my low paid staff and make sure the media pick up on it.

Then I would set the narrative that clubs are going bust and can't afford to operate in these circumstances.

Then sit back and watch everyone flame the players.

All of that though would depend on having reporters on your payroll and friends in the media

I don’t think those who have been there through the dark days will ever turn away completely.
Once a Blue, always a Blue. I will just never go again or subscribe to the money whores BT,SKY etc etc.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that, I just don’t agree with turning away from City for something out of their control.

have City fans said they are turning their backs on City ? If so I must have missed those. For most of us its football we don't like. The way the press/media are towards City along with the governing bodies, VAR, half n half scarfs, away fans in with us etc. If I lived close I would still go 100% but living over 300 miles away I give up a lot of family time, money, work to follow City and yes its nice to come home. Should City and I think they will start fighting back and calling out the powers at be, the premier league 8, I will be straight back. At the moment City just don't seem to care about what 'The 8' do or what Liverpool do or what Arsenal do, they can all have free rain to have a pop at City as do the press. This has worn me down to a point that if City wont fight back why should I give up my weekends, travel over 600 miles per trip, spend over 3 or 4k a year on following City. I am 60 in a few months so have been here in the shit times. I love City to bits but perhaps its time for the younger Blues to take over from us old uns !. I still will attend matches but at the moment it will be reduced to I guess 3 or 4 a season. Should City blow the premier 8 and UEFA out of the water than young'uns get out of the way I am back to attending !!

Some have said they’re packing in going, yes.

I don’t like modern football either, despise VAR, the authorities, media etc. but packing in let’s them win.

To a point yes , but I cant afford to keep going to something I am not enjoying , if I lived down the road not a problem it would be like the old days when we were shit, it was more a release from work on a Saturday , didn't cost to much a few beers home by 7. Now its 6 hrs to Manchester , 6 hrs back just to talk about VAR or the amount of away fans around us or the half n half around us. Plus as it stands my household is down 20% on income. Its around £200 per game between my lad and me that's a lot make the tickets a tenner and all 3pm ko great !!

If there’s other factors involved then that’s understandable but solely quitting going just because some games might be forced to be played behind closed doors, to finish a season where we can’t win the league anyway, is daft.

I would agree with if it was solely because it was being played behind closed doors. But this could be the straw that broke the camels back for many.
