Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

.
Only this. And of course the Govt (pilloried by many on here) will make the right call again, and say there will be no football until at least the start of the new season. I honestly believe there will be no football until we have either a vaccine or a strong inhibitor

Exactly. There is absolutely no way that the Government will sanction any form of contact sport without at the very least some sort of inhibiting medication. Not even behind closed doors. All the evidence points to that not being possible for some time yet. IMHO the Government should follow France's lead and call everything off until September at the earliest.

Pure guesswork, not sure if posted already but hey it’s amusing

Not on the pitch. But if clubs buy their own testing apparatus and conduct testing by their own medical team every day, do they need to social distance? People aren't social distancing every day in supermarkets and leaving their germs everywhere, where's the outcry about them
what gives clubs the right to purchase the PPE and testing apparatus when there is a bloody national shortage, elderly folk are going to die if the dont get this equipment, do you think thats right?

Maybe the Premier League are publicly discussing all these outlandish ways to resume the season, to demonstrate they are doing all that is possible to get playing again. So, when the season is cancelled, they have evidence that they have considered all possible ways of re-commencing.

Thus, if the season gets declared null and void, teams will be unlikely to be in a position to appeal that decision, as the Premier League had little choice, but to do so.
Very well thought out. There could also be the issue with the contract with the broadcasters. As long as the PL are prepared to play but cannot for safety reasons out of their control, then they will most probably not be liable and will continue to receive the broadcast payments. That synch’s with the PL players not taking a wage cut.

Today’s actual statement from the PL, not the one’s the media put their spin on, seems to indicate that they’re not in a rush to restart games until it is realistically safe to do so. Again, in-line with them not forfeiting the contract.

Would you all be saying the same if it was pubs or restaurants planning how they can reopen? Why is it open season on football all of a sudden, every business in the world wants to get back up and running why shouldn't football or any sport for that matter. Do we stop football in a bad flu year where 20k can die?

Businesses and tens of thousands of jobs are at stake if football matches don't get played. People starting petitions to stop them from playing, what's that about?

Why not start a petition to close supermarkets or tubes where there is hell of a lot more risk than 22 people coming I to close contact with eachother.

If the government says it's safe under their proposals to play then it should start again. No fans will be at any sport for the next 12 months or so that's the way it is. Rather have some sport to watch than none.

Are Pubs essential to everyday life? - NO
Are Restaurants essential to everyday life? - NO
Is food supply to the general public essential? - YES

...do you see where I'm going with this?

It would appear to many that the premature introduction of football is being pushed for one reason and for one reason only, to save money and save the livelihoods of very, VERY rich people.

It's going to be a very strange new world that will greet us when we eventually come out of isolation mate, and believe it or not, watching ANY live forms of entertainment will not be essential to life. Thousands, many be millions of us will have to find new forms of employment; forms of employment that are deemed essential to this new way of life and that, I'm afraid to say, is probably a fact.

Watch some old videos of sport if you're in need of a sporting fix, but please don't push for "ancient roman gladiatorial matches" because that's possibly what you're asking for by insisting that people play a sport whilst a pandemic virus (which may even already be airborne) is strangling the world, just to ease the boredom.

Once the tests becomes 100% accurate and you test every day then it be ok to play at the moment the test are accurate. Oh everything has to disinfected before after every game hotels stadiums everything.

I said before how are they going to disinfect the pitch ? There will be sweat etc on the pitch or cant the virus survive on grass ?

You are wrong in saying only very rich people's livlihoods are at risk. Tens of thousands of 'ordinary' people are employed by football clubs and not just match day stewards etc. If it is safe to play behind closed doors they should start to play.

A pandemic virus that kills 0.1%-0.2% of people that catch it and even less of anyone remotely fit and healthy. It's not a fight to the death.

What has PPE got to do with it? You're just picking a random topic where there is an issue and linking it to football.

Football clubs have their own medical staff, not impacting the NHS in any way and if they can purchase manufactured testing devices what is the issue?

You need to stop flu,it is not and never had been flu,i know you said from the start, you think playing a contact sport is the same as going to a supermarket? Supermarkets are doing social distancing by the way
