Could the British public be convinced to go to war?

Interesting question posed on LBC today, I think perhaps they could be.

It matters not - Johnson has a huge majority and can do as he pleases. No point in holding a massive protest march against it - they tried that to show Blair we didn't want to go to war then but he had a big majority and.......well you know the rest.

Also depends on what you mean by War. An Iraq style ground war with Iran would be a obvious tactical error. Iraq was bad enough, Iran is surrounded by its military allies (proxies), as a loose alliance they cover a massive area. From Palastine and Syria through Iraq on one side and Afghanistan and Pakistan on the other. Just like Iraq you could easily make a load of progress and get to Tehran and take down the flag but what then. How do you hunt down military leaders in that kind or geographic area where they can slip across borders, it's too big to control. Unlike Iraq which was a classic dictatorship, toppling Saddam was broadly popular, Iran has religious rulers. You cant just steam in and shoot them and expect the locals to thank you. If you do then pull out you just create a massive vacuum for a potentially worse ISIS style regime. So no I don't think so.

At the time Blair had cross party support and a clear majority of public support as well. He also had UN resolutions to base a case for the legality of that war. Despite the constant 'war criminal' tag that gets thrown at him - he hasn't been convicted of war crimes.

Trump on the other hand is talking openly of committing war crimes so while similar scenarios I think we need to recognise that Bush/Blair accepted the need to have a legal case for war and recognised War crimes as a 'thing' (arguing they went to far is another subject). Trump has zero respect for international law and does not believe in war crimes. On that basis alone we should not get involved.

If we refer to any potential war against Iran its fairly irrelevant.

At worst Trump will bomb strategic sites in Iran. Iran in turn will try to stir more shit up.

There can be no actual boots on the ground war against Iran as its simply to big and its terrain to complex for the Yanks even with our help to invade. In short the Yanks could not afford to do it.

From the Iranian perspective What can they do. Invade Israel via Iraq and Jordan? They might have the numbers but they wouldnt make it 20 miles beyond their own border.

No public support for a war. Unless Iran do something incredibly stupid, like landing a missile on a barrack's full of British troops.

They have made a point, time to wind their neck in now.

By war I mean British missile strikes inside Iran.

There will be no ground war in Iran.
The west only pick on countries to invade that have no army to defend themselves with.
Iran is a completely different proposition from Iraq.
It has a large, well equipped army.
Trump will stick to killing people by drone flown from Chicago.
