Could we rescue Torres?

Torres will probably end up taking Michael Owens place on the Man United bench.

The real Torres is probably locked in Liverpool's trophy cabinet. They're probably still wondering how they got away with selling some spanish bloke that looked abit like him for £50m

This "form is temporary" argument really pisses me off. He's been out of form for over 18 months now. How long is "temporary" exactly?

Agreed.

I wouldn't waste a place in our squad on him I'd rather we gave it to a youth player or spend big getting Edison from Napoli.

I cant see him hitting form in England again with all the pressure that is on him at Chelsea.

He needs to leave the country.

i know its possibly a tranfer question but i was thinking that we could get torres dirt cheap next season, his stock is at an all time low having now been dropped from the spain squad.if as they say that form is temporary and class is permanent then we could get a very very good player for around 10m. the lad would 100% score goals in our team. the other thing is by not throwing 40m at a striker we conform to the ffp much easier.

I know how much we hate youtube clips, when players are concerned, but....this clip is from OUR league. We know when in form, this lad can destroy anyone, i'd have him in a heartbeat.

Watching that just makes me feel sad for him. All the money in the world can't take away the pain of a talent that has evaporated, never to return.

I hope for his sake that I'm wrong.

Yep from me, I think we would get the very best out of him, this is one transfer I really want to happen.

No no no, there are so many better strikers out there now, not that we even need another striker.

True, but how many are willing to simply be City's fourth striker? Even one of our own, Guidetti, has stated in an interview that he'd rather stay in Feyenoord than be the fourth option..

I think Torres would link up well with Silva. They would have a better understanding with each other, speaking the same language, and already training together in the national team..
It all depends on how determined he is in getting his form back..
Of course, if we had actually got Mata, as the rumor-mill was going into overdrive about..then there would have been a definite chance Torres would regain his earlier form

Torres is, in a way, like Dzeko. He needs proper service to score goals..and loads of mollycoddling..

Certainly not Torres! Guidetti might stubbornly say he won't be 4th striker but if the club go and guarantee him 30+ appearances next season he might quickly change his tune. Some players are stuck in the mindset that "4th striker = no games" which isn't the case in the modern game.

They play together for the national team along with Xavi and Iniesta... and Torres has been so poor he's been dropped not just from the team but the squad. He's only scored 4 goals in 2 years, all against poor nations.

He gets the service, he just messes up too much.

He would get good service and his goals will return.

He got good service for Spain and scored 4 goals in 2 years (all against poor teams, two against Liechtenstein), now he's been dropped.

This "loss of form" is now about 2 years old, it stemmed from injuries before the 2010 World Cup and since then he hasn't been as quick and has permanently lost that pace over 5-10 yards that is so important.

Remember that he had a goal drought at Liverpool before leaving for Chelsea with the same service as before. In three different teams (his late Liverpool career, Chelsea, and Spain with Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Pedro, and Villa around him) he has failed to score goals now.

We'd be buying a brand name, no more, and falling into the old "galactico" trap of buying players based on reputation not their current abilities. It'd be the same as buying Kaka now when we could go out and get Gotze or Eriksen for example. Players like Cavani, Van Persie, and even Falcao are miles better and more relevant in the year 2012. And Guidetti would probably score more goals also, which isn't hard when Torres has scored 5 goals in his last 48 games, worse than some defenders... that includes various open net misses.

I think the ship has sailed with Torres, and your argument is worth consideration.

he's not hitting the same stride that he once did, and there are plenty of other players out there who are younger, talented, less fragile-looking, and currently doing it.

Tevez will end up at Chelsea, if bobby thought Torres could be good enough then that would be good enough for me.

Actually, this is an interesting thought. Chelsea are now pretty desperate, and i'd wager that they'd pay top dollar to get their hands on Tevez. Question is, are we willing to let him go to a rival team?
