What Macron announced with a 300bn package to help people was what this government should have done.

Utility Bill's and some taxes are stopping.

Whereas here Bumbling Boris mutters some words about not going out but not closing pubs, restaurants etc. Effectively bankrupting many of them.

Still not closing schools and still not closing borders and speaking to a Doctor friend at the MRI we've effectively given up testing for it.

I just don’t think we have the money mate.

Bollox,I am in the high risk category so in house for next 12 weeks, @karen7 I think a lot of people on bluemoon will be gunning for your post record over the next few months !!!!!!
Ha they can have it if they have a time machine to swap with me so i can go back 4 weeks and not go to london lol
Hope you stay well, just be careful and you will be fine

For those saying people need to be forced to stay in and not just asked to, do you think there’s actually a practical way of being able to achieve it? They could come out and threaten fines but who’s going to be enforcing it?

Police? Army personnel?

Not having a go, just wondering.

Asking people won’t achieve it, locking down like other countries will and would be taken more seriously. If you lockdown pubs and shops etc are closed. If you say oh please don’t go, guess what? People will go.

Yeah I know one of the lads is looking into redundancy as he’s worked for us for 7 years FT. The only thing is they have been temporarily laid off so could come back in the next few months when the work picks up again. Like other posters have said there isn’t much work out there either so it’s not easy for them to find anything in the meantime. It’s a shitty situation.
Certainly is. Just to clarify, lay-offs don’t necessarily have to be permanent in order to qualify. However, I understand some wouldn’t want to burn their bridges if there’s a possibility of work picking up. If someone’s exploring the options, though, that’s good.

Posted this in the other bloody thread but guess it’s more relevant here.

Science correspondent from the Times talking about the modelling used.

Some more from the modelling press conference

"We were expecting herd immunity to build. We now realise it’s not possible to cope with that. " - Prof Azra Ghani

"Closing schools would have some effect at reducing transmission. Closing schools on its own will have a significant effect on healthcare capacity. If I was to guess, it is quite likely to happen"

"The aim now is not to slow the rate of growth of cases, but put the epidemic in reverse. Hopefully there will be tens of thousands of deaths. Maybe just a few thousand."

Seems we have realised we needed to reverse course.

Worth a read @Churchlawtonblue

Whilst I agree some people will probably still go out I’m still not sure how you’d fully enforce a lockdown.

Although we might end up finding out in the next week or so if the numbers aren’t looking good.
