You are very fortunate. In my experience there are more knob heads than genuinely decent people in this country. Most people can count proper friends on one hand
I've two really close friends who I regularly socalise with (or used to) and who I could rely to help me in any situation. I've many, many good friends who I've met down the years though school, work etc who I enjoy the company of but who I only keep sporadically in contact with. I'd struggle to name more than two, three people I genuinely detest on a personal level. There are indeed, thousands and thousands of utter arseholes in this country and beyond. But, in my experience, they're massively outnumbered by the decent and the good. We have a population of 67 million. And 90,000 prisoners. so, 0.001% of our population has been deemed worthy of locking up. Whilst that cannot and does not exclude all who are deemed worthy of being a "wanker"; its certainly points to a society where the overwhelming majority are decent. Sadly though, the minority have such a deleterious effect That, I don't dispute.

I do think we need to be careful about these alleged ‘crimes’ and the range of powers we are happy to give to the police. Breaking up parties or groups of people is one thing but a lot of the other stuff seems a bit over zealous. For example, the Northampton chief constable is talking about going through peoples shopping to check they’ve only bought ‘essentials’ whatever they are. Presumably they’ll then confiscate what they don’t think is essential, with no refund and no right of appeal?
5 forces have now got forms to report people on line who, according to the reporter, are ‘flouting the rules’.
It’s very easy to give power to the state and its institutions but often more difficult to take them back and we might just need to be careful what we wish for..
Surely it's easier to prosecute shops selling non essentials, pisses me off queuing to get in tesco while somebody can spend half an hour choosing which skirt to buy, the women aren't much better either

The cheif scientific officer said somewhere between 30% and 50% of cases are asymptomatic.
There was a 50% finding from the study in Iceland and today 30% from a study in Germany.
Sure but that's small beer in the scheme of things. Even if 50% would only mean 2x the number of people being infected compared to registered cases. But we know there are way more than 2x. These are the people who have symptoms but who are not so I'll to have needed hospital treatment. People who are ill but have not been tested.

There's probably 5x, 10x or even 20x of these. It's just the 100x to 150x I have trouble believing..

Apparently we've got police checking number plates at some supermarkets looking for selfish twats

Before all this broke out some supermarkets where fining people for using the car parks twice in a day, therefore they must have the ability to easily spot this, and could therefore stop offenders immediately. Or ard they simply just thinking about profits again

Sweden has reported 793 dead in total – rising from 687 on Wednesday – with over 9,000 confirmed cases in all.

Norway has reported 88 deaths and 6,160 confirmed cases

Oh do fuck off you neck beard. I saw your post before the edit accusing me of lacking empathy.

It’s nothing of the sort, my post was simply explaining for the hard of thinking that it’s impossible to compare daily death figures between different countries when the U.K. (for example) keeps adding in non-hospital deaths for a previous one to two week period to any figures released on the day they were determined.

The numbers are collated as such due to the fact that non-hospital deaths require two separate GP’s to see the body and sign the death certificate. It means that numbers aren’t available in real time.

As for “why the U.K. would be different to Italy”, the U.K. hasn’t taken a single ventilator away from a older patient to give it to a younger one (yet). Our health service has not yet reached capacity.

So you can keep posting about everything is bleak and blame the government if that’s your way of dealing with it. Other posters can however, realise it’s a shite situation and yet still come to rational view that no amount of finger pointing or asserting blame will make a difference.

If you’re wanting to win the badge for the most upset and most depressed by the situation then have at it.
I clap this post.

The cynic in me is telling me that different governments are counting these deaths differently.

Cheers for the insult. I edited it out immediately because I felt bad and thought it was harsh. I lost my temper briefly. And besides, asking someone if they lack empathy, and then quickly retracting it isn't exactly total bellend behaviour is it? I think it's pretty understandable that many people feel very fed up and may lose their tempers. Today I learned an auntie of mine is intensive care in Wales due to this, and an uncle of mine likely has coronavirus closer to home, who lives with my auntie with diabetes who is high risk. My parents are terrified. Add to that that my missus has been furloughed today with her job at risk. Yeah well, I'm pretty fucking fed up, and I can imagine a lot are going through very similar things.

And yes, I don't think our government's response has been perfect. So fucking what? I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that either. If people are allowed to vehemently defend the government's strategy, people are also allowed to disagree just as passionately. I agree finger pointing won't make a difference right now, but people have every fucking right to vent and yes things ARE fucking bleak. How can anyone possibly say that it isn't? There's levels of bleak, yes, but it's all still on the same shite scale. I think its quite a normal reaction to find Vallance say that our death totals will rise for two more weeks, despite the already very high numbers, as totally fucking crap. How can anyone be okay with that?

And the worry is that despite not being short of ventilators yet, we're still posting deaths at the same rate as Italy. STILL. That's not exactly encouraging is it? We're matching them at their worst, without being overstretched. Unless im missing something here, and this is a sincere question, what positives are there to take from that?

You can be rational about it all and still totally fed up with it. There's a pretty strong argument to suggest the rational thing to feel right now is hopelessly lost. I know people like yourself probably think people like me are fucking wimps or sumat, but so fucking what? It isn't a good time, and maybe you should be a bit more understanding that people struggle with awful shit like this, understandably!
Oh fuck, I clap this post

Watching CNN and they are talking about immunity again,a dr on there has had it and has antibodies, have they really got an antibody test that is reliable and nobody else has?

Chicago jail has 400 + prisoners ,biggest single outbreak of covid in the states

Detroit struggling

You want to watch something a bit more uplifting too depressing all these corona programmes. Have been watching the dickheads on first dates and some kids on undateables. Everybody needs someone in their life. Quite nice when they find someone

Are we any clearer on what the death rate of Corona is yet? last I seen WHO had it at around 3.4%

from the death figures we currently have for the UK of 8000

Death rate of 1% would give us 800k people already being infected with the virus in the UK

Death rate of 0.1% would give us 8 million infected

Seriously, no we're not.
We're highlighting all the non hospital deaths a week later via the ONS too.
As far as I can see, only France has really started to do the catch up as well.
When we get the Retrospectoscopes out at the end of the 2nd quarter then we'll be able to see the actual truth of it

According to this we're on a steeper trajectory than Italy and if we're going to have 14,000 more deaths over the next fortnight, we will be on a trajectory even more steeper than them whether the starting point is 1 death, 10 deaths or 50 deaths.
