China’s pollution levels getting back to, and in places exceeding, where they were pre lockdown.

obviously it's all prediction, but i saw a talk that estimated pollution would spike in the UK straight after covid as people seek to avoid public transport, take breaks away from their houses etc

Will certainly be interesting to see what we learn from this and how (whether) we mend our ways.

my rather cynical friend was predicting, a couple months ago, that people would basically be begging to go back to the pre-covid way, back to debt cycles and living on credit and being a consumer, instead of taking the greatest opportunity of a generation for social change. Dunno, part of me agrees, part of me hopes he's wrong.

well I hope people realise what is important to them , health , seeing friends and family and enjoying life .

not measuring their life by how many nice shiny things they have all the time .

The only problem is we have built our economy on selling nice shiny things to people so it’s going to be an interesting few years

At the end of the Spanish Flu, there was a depression, followed by the Roaring Twenties, a time of modernity and shifts away from stifling traditions. It could be that we witness something similar. Can’t remember how that all ended...

Tbh I don't know any different life and would be totally new to me to learn another way. I don't even know what it would entail or how we could get there. I realise that's part of the problem, just saying where I am.

Spell it out for you, I suggest you listen and take it in, rather than believe everything you are fed.

Fuck up.

Prof Sikora seems to be talking / writing a lot of sense

Unfortunately absolutely everything about the government's strategy has been reactive. And when they have finally acted they've been disorganised and often taken the wrong option. We are going to keep falling behind other countries, even ones who had less warning than ours, and our economy will suffer as a result. The best way to get the economy moving is to manage the virus response properly. That's the government's job.

The government is still focused on short term gains. They've struggled to get contact tracing in place but still want to rush teachers back so that the kids' parents can be rushed back soon afterwards. Doing this will harm the economy even further in the long term if we risk a second spike that is worse than in other countries.
There's a ceiling on how far you can get trampling all over the poorest in society in order to further your economy. We need something that protects everyone from the bottom up right now and unfortunately the Tories are completely unfamiliar with that concept.

There is responsibility at lots of levels including individuals to thoroughly wash their hands; Public Health England and Local Authorities to provide an effective public health response; the NHS to treat seriously ill; and the Government to set the strategy and be accountable e.g. at the ballot box etc. The loss of life is appalling but the current response is more important than inquests at this stage.

The chief scientific officers have said they test track and trace needs to be in place for schools to expand their teaching beyond essential workers and online studies. That’s good enough for me. That’s said, critical mayors like Andy Burnham and Steve Morgan have a role in helping to support test, trace and isolate because the Local Government is the home of public health functions in England. Wider public health is everyone’s responsibility.

All roads in this pandemic lead to one man and I'm not spelling it out to you. PMS welcome
I reckon it's the evil mastermind Bill Gates. A man so evil he cunningly gave away 90% of his wealth and spends all his time trying to figure out how to help the worlds' impoverished and needy. The bastard.
