Getting to the point where a lack of resources, staff etc... is almost inadvertently forcing us down the herd immunity route, as the testing route becomes less effective.

Might be worth focusing on the 'have you had it' test as that might be more effective at narrowing down which areas and people are more at risk.

I think staffing issues won't be the problem with ex staff members coming back into service.
I would put the blame on the thousands who were pissing it up and all the big gathering the other week,
How many were infected that weekend God knows..

At the same time it strikes me as a bit weird that numbers are so similar day after day in certain countries. I think they're all handling them as best they can to try to manage the hype/sensationalism.

Iran mostly looks suspect for that. It's around 150 for two-three weeks. It's either the peak which lasts very long or they are lying to stop panic.

Hmmmmm. I don't think so.

We have 25,000 known cases and people dying at the rate of 300 or 400 a day already. Let's suppose the actual infections is 100x that, and there are 2.5m infected. Waiting for 40m+ to be infected for herd immunity would mean 1,000's of people per day dying, for quite a while.

And what if there's only 10x infected? Then it's tens of thousands a day. There is no scenario where herd immunity is any kind of "solution". Absolute supression of this thing is the only way out without total carnage.

Yeah my last paragraph was more a tongue in cheek comment based on the way things are panning out.

I absolutely don't want it to be the strategy but it just feels like we're sleep-walking into it.

Lack of testing and a fairly flimsy lockdown just seems to be solving nothing.

The testing is still the biggest issue.

We have to test our way out of this crisis, unfortunately the below is happening:

Part of me thinks we're too late though, if we're hoping to get to 25,000 tests by the end of April then that just seems far too slow.

That is ridiculous, every day they say they are testing more when in reality they are not

i think we got a few weeks before reaching that point - providing everyone plays their part.

Not really, but seeing that you can`t give a specific reason as to why you`re shocked at the numbers, then perhaps I`m not shocked at your inability to engage in a debate.
Shocking really.
Can you explain, coz not really is neither yes or no, it’s a debate. Are you infatuated with me.

One thing we chatted about a lot a couple of weeks back, but I’ve not seen any posted figures on (on here I mean), is our current ICU capacity Vs the amount of people needing such care.

Do we still have “spare” capacity?
Not seen any UK figures, When Scotland publish their daily figures they give the number in ICU, Today 135, think before this there were 180 beds. Apparently they have doubled that and aim to quadruple to over 700 in hospitals plus talking about adding 300 in a field hospital but with a capacity for up to 1000.
Not sure how many ventilators are available for those beds though ,or CPAP machines, but hopefully they are starting to arrive in the next week or so.
