288 planes landing at Heathrow today from all around the world. And some people think this will all be over in a few weeks.

It’s absolutely insane.

Is it any surprise millions have it when people from northern Italy were walking through unchecked just a few short weeks ago.

Personally, I think enforcing the wearing of face masks would have had more effect on this crisis than shutting down everything. The evidence is now clear - PHE and the BBC were talking out of their backsides. Face masks protect the people you meet from you.

It's been bleeding obvious from the start. No, from way before the start. Years ago people were looking at everyone in Asia wearing masks when they had a cold and years ago we all realised it was to stop spreading the germs not to stop the wearer from catching them.

This has been common knowledge for years, and now we seem to think this is some kind of new revelation, with newspapers saying (in terms) "have we got it alll wrong about face masks?" It really beggars belief.

How on earth can people commute on trains and the underground when standing in close proximity, WITHOUT everyone people wearing face masks??? It's insane.

Wonder how many of these are virtually empty of passengers and only being flown so the airlines don’t have to refund passengers? Doesn’t that responsibility pass to insurance companies if flights run but FCO advice is not to travel?

In fact PHE has been a total fucking disaster. The lack of testing issue has a lot to do with them too. Not wishing to upset existing contract holders and failing to involve the mass of private university labs from the off is what rigid bureaucracy and doctrine does for you

Clever people and countries look around them and see what works and then incorporate it. I'm afraid the British have always had a we know best attitude, much to our detriment.

Yep.

And with the wearher also being shite at that time it is much more likely that people would have stayed at home.

I think the Government had done many good things during the crisis, but they have also fucked up on more than one occasion.

Is it time for a Covid-19 hindsight thread? Might make for fewer arguments on this one.

When this cycle is over the world can take stock and put measures in place to improve responses to future novel viruses. I’m not sure WHO will be totally blameless.
