And what if like the AIDS virus a vaccine is not possible, not a fan of heard immunity far from it but what is the alternative ?
I think from what I have read that's unlikely. Also we could develop an effective treatment if not a vaccine. So that people can catch it, develop natural immunity but not die in such great numbers. But if neither are possible, then we just have to accept that probably something like half a million people die.

I don't know about you, but from my perspective, I think we should be a damned sight more certain that there can be no vaccine and no cure, before just accepting half a million deaths. So we have to follow the social distancing and other preventative measures to the greatest extent possible for now, and prevent as many people as possible from catching it. More infections just means more deaths. And whilst there is hope of a vaccine then avoidable deaths are unnecessary deaths.

Agree with everything you say.

I thought so as well to be honest which was why I was surprised they put it in there. Unless it's the same as the immunity line and until they have concrete evidence they don't want to commit either way?
Children get it as a mild illness except for rare cases, they cough, and sneeze and put their hand's in their mouths etc and can't social distance, hence school closures and then not allowed to be with grandparents or play with kids outside of their own family,i think you have to careful with one study and look across what everyone is reporting,we know kids have it and spread it,just be thankful they don't get it too bad

Great post I think

If a vaccine cannot be developed the likely reason is that you do not get a reliable immune response to it so Herd immunity through infection won't work either and you have to wait for a treatment. Virologists and vaccine developers do seem reasonably optimistic that a vaccine can be developed though with an uncertain timeline.

Bravo, excellent post. Sick to death of this theme that seems to be around 'oh theres nothing we can do, so lets just roll over and accept it'.

No, we are a few months into this virus and as you've said we need to do as much as possible to buy as much time as possible. Sick to fucking death of the pessimistic and meek attitude so many people have.
