Agree, you could sense "slippage" - more traffic, more people out in the parks, shops busier and just a general sense that people were dipping their toe in the waters so to speak. I think part of the reason some countries have been more successful is their general psyche - tell the South Koreans to socially distance and you can bet they'll have personal infra-red beams attached to their belts in seconds. I think that's part of the reason Italy struggled so much - can't imagine your average Neapolitan taking too kindly to authority!I think its going to be a while, but I think we will get there and I am sure vaccines and treatments will be found sooner than would be normally considered reasonable. Will the numpty fraternity cause set backs that cost lives? I would'nt bet against it but live in hope enough will use their brains to avoid anything too catastrophic.
June would have been my preference to start easing it all but I think its very clear that the lock down was beginning to break down and frankly the government and the Police had not the first idea or inclination to enforce it consistently or sensibly. Not sure Boris had much choice last night.
The alternative to what we've had could (and possibly should) have been much more draconian. But would it have lasted as long as the "lockdown" we've had? Imponderables. Let's hope that vaccine is found and that it cracks this thing completely.
