COVID-19 — Coronavirus

500k with no controls would have been passed very easily in my view.

the problem with the happy clappers is the fact they look at it from where we are now ( 4 months in ) with lockdowns and say “look look it’s not as bad as all that” where as models were talking totals.

500k is an average of 1369 deaths a day over a year. With no controls that is well in the range of possibility.

Wow you my friend are an absolute plant pot.

Are you suggesting that doing what we did, didn't save 10's of thousands of lives ? That we shouldn't have bothered ?
Completely the opposite. The measures we took are the reason the deaths were only 10% of what was projected if we did nothing (although that number could have been significantly lower if we took even stricter measures.) Yet some people want to use the fact that 500,000 didn't die as somehow "proof" that the projected numbers were wrong and the lockdown was unnecessary, rather than proof that it was the right thing to do and that they saved 400 odd thousand lives (depending on how things go from here)

The idea of easement of lockdown effects everyone differently. I know of a 27 year old who is now suffering symptoms of anxiety at the thought of going back out. No underlying health problem, he has just taken on board the government messages at the beginning of lockdown and it seems to have become an obsession.
My 71 year old aunt on the other hand (who has had asthma since childhood) can't wait to have something approaching a normal life again. I noticed a change in her during the lockdown but now she seems to be back to her old self. She lives in Leicester but escaped the latest lockdown there because she lives 2 miles outside the zone. Although aware of the particular risk to herself she can't wait to get out again.
It depends on the mindset of each individual, and no government is going to do the right thing for everyone.
You're quite right and of course the idea of lockdown was, in the governments words "to slow the spread" I think some people were under the impression we would all hide away until the virus magically disappeared. That was never going to happen but I think these are the people who are scared to go out now. Basically the plan was we'll be in lockdown for as long as we can afford to be in lockdown.

Obviously we've had more deaths than we should have had but you look at how bad it could have been and what the figures are doing now, the lockdown has done its job.

What happens next is anybody's guess. Nobody really knows, though plenty of people think they do.

it seemed a pretty good post to me.

And this above is the problem, I have to go out now but later or tomorrow I will post figures of people who died from covid-19 with no previous underlying health issues.

They have consistently pumped the numbers (backed by facts and not models).

And everyone quoting the 500k number if we did nothing go and look at Swedens common sense approach.

Peace and love x

People on here 100% predicted millions in the uk alone.
I got slagged off on here when someone predicted 50k dead by I think early May. No idea if he has apologised as I blocked the twat along with many others on this thread who are still predicting doom and gloom. We are over the worst with infections and deaths reducing and the NHS was not overwhelmed. We will have blips over the next few months and we have to accept that. Doesn’t help when the likes of the twats in Leicester totally ignore what they are being told and it takes three months for the local councillors to say that it might be a language problem. FFS I can just see other European countries translating all their pressers, adverts, social media etc into various other languages, not. Take some personal responsibility and do the right thing and we will all go back to normality quicker.

Highly unlikely I would imagine as if those sort of numbers were happening people probably would imposed their own lockdown
