COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Throughout this pandemic I always believed the advantages of the coordination of technology, cooperation and medical advancements we have attained since 1918 would prevail over the accelerant of this virus that would be caused by the massive increase in population and the ease and speed of global interconnectivity in these 100 years.

If we do get to the finishing line on this just battered and bruised let's hope we have the infrastructure and global coordination in place for the next one - lessons need to be learned and implemented for future generations.
The warnings have been there over and over again though. This is the 64th outbreak of a widespread communicable disease just this century. These don’t include normal flu.

The world’s top universities do studies into this all the time.

China have a hell of a lot to answer for, and not just for this one! But I don’t think they’ll be held to task about it at all.

You have to get to the root of the problem and China are more than sometimes the root. Yet nothing seems to be done about it.

Scotland 52 cases (27 in the Grampian area) and a 1.2% test ratio. Not good. Possibly the highest yet. And double England yesterday.

Hospital numbers up again to 269 (+2). Another worrying trend. Though still small.

Still 3 in ICU and 0 deaths though.

The hospital figures are more worrying than the 1.2% when you take into account all the factors imo. When they're actively targeting their tests based on an outbreak and people who might be affected, you'd perhaps expect to see a higher positivity %. Getting it back down will take a little bit of time whilst still trying to ensure there's no outbreaks elsewhere. Greater Glasgow numbers back up again which is didsapointing.

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has warned fans they should "not expect to see Aberdeen or Celtic play over the course of the coming week" after a series of coronavirus rule breaches.

boris would have said no problem, play extra games

Maybe so but the ultra safe approach wouldn’t have allowed us to beat Real Madrid. Very few footballers have been ill with the virus.

I agree. This is why I am following the hospital numbers data and mentioned last night the fact they stopped updating it for the past 3 days was to me suspicious as it had been regularly updated when it was going in the other direction.

The big increase in hospital numbers in England was even more concerning than Scotland, where right now it is tiny by comparison. So we need to watch it carefully in coming days.

New cases are not the problem. New people getting sick enough to need hospital and therefore maybe start to need a ventilator/or die in a week or two cannot be dismissed.

It is not just about the players getting ill,it is passing it on to the wider population

The players have been in “bubbles” much of the time.
IMHO, the happiness top flight football is brining to millions of people currently exceeds the risk of spreading the virus. It’s about quality of life as well as quantity of years IMHO.
