There is a reluctance to admit something fundamental here and that is, as a species, we wont beat this virus. I will go out on a limb here and say several lockdowns over the coming months and years wont stop this virus. What will happen is slowly but surely it will work its way through us all and sadly, some us us will succumb to it but the vast majority wont and like the Flu, we will just learn to live with it.

Its become a political bomb that is frightening politicians to death. They are at the point of wanting us all in lockdown so it wont spread but at the same time, if we can all get back to work and school and the pub and the High Street that will be great thanks.

Washing hands and masks will only go so far. This virus will find a way because nature has designed them to do just that.

exactly get to that rave....

On the post earlier about 200 schools having positive cases that is an increase of 62 today.

And they split 87 Scotland, 80 England, 22 N Ireland and 11 Wales.

While still no web site the map is updated to week up 3 Sep.

Outside Bolton the biggest areas here in GM in past 7 days are:

Alexandra Park Oldham 22

Werneth Oldham 13

Salem Oldham 11

Fallowfield West and Whalley Range 16

Rusholme West and Moss Side 15

Eccles 15

Prestwich Central 11

Salford University 11

Salford Quays 11

Ordsall 11

Levenshule South 10

Hyde North 10

Fallowfield Central 10

Ardwick 10

No other areas in Salford, Manchester, Stockport, Oldham etc with more than 4 or 5.

In Bolton Brightmet South and Darcy Lever at 30 was the top

But Hall in the wood and Bolton Central had 20 each

And most other areas had over 10 - such as Smithills 17. Little Lever 15, Astley Bridge 15, Heaton 14, Daubhill 13 and Great Lever 11. But hardly any ward had sub 10.

The outbreak in Rossendale is a shock given its small size, sub rural location and past low rates - but trapped between Blackburn, Burnley and Rochdale it was an easy target. Lot of densely packed old stone houses for a rural valley too.

Here there were 13 cases in Whitworth, 12 cases in Bacup, even 6 in Stacksteads and Waterfoot.

Nowhere in Rochdale had over 10 on its own.

Did you have your smear at your GP surgery though?
Yes,rang up and said I was overdue and she booked me in with a nurse, met at the closed door, had to use hand sanitizer and sit where she put me on carefully distanced chairs, only four of us in there, nurse in full PPE did the smear as usual ,perfectly run machine ,you can't get in the surgery without a pre booked appointment, you call them and a Dr or nurse practitioner calls you back,if they think you need seeing they book you in ,if possible sort it out on the phone

Mr Shapps said the new quarantine policy for seven Greek islands will come into effect from 4am on Wednesday as there was a "significant risk to UK public health from those islands".

I love greece, just stay and get pissed

So you were trolling in the foden thread then ?

I'm not going straight to A and E with this arm thing. I'm off work this week so will just ask for a GP telephone appt. If they refuse to refer for an x-ray again though I'll just go straight there. It's been 4 months of pain now.
Maybe anything in a surgery is accessible, just hospital referrals that have waiting lists? That would explain the cancer patients thing.
What a bloody mess :-(

Got some access at last. Could be worse considering only 40 down on yesterday nationally.

Regional scoreboard:

London 274 - down from 308

Midlands 430 - UP from 420.

Yorkshire 349 - down from 371.

So modest falls and a rise here.

But North West dropped a little more from 706 to 614. Though still the second worst I have recorded.

GM though fared a little better today with numbers widely down and a fall from yesterdays huge record of 395 out of those NW 706. This time GM lost one third of that number to tally 263 out of 614 - well under 50% and lowest % of the NW of late. Though - all be it just by one - the second highest daily total during the restrictions v the 262 of three days ago. Which is also 99 more than this day last week.
