Of today's Scottish infections.

12 in people over 65
13 in people younger than 20 (5 <5's)
The rest 20-64 age group.

Still low numbers for perhaps the most vulnerable, but low as it may be its still slightly higher than it's been.

GM scoreboard looks a bit healthier mostly.

Bolton 45 - significantly down from 105. But up on the 40 of last Monday and the more typical for here 11 of two Mondays ago. 649 in month. 343 past week. 150 over 2 days (was 132). Pop score 953 and could yet be the first town to move from the 700 club to 1000 club in under 2 weeks. Hopefully not.

Bury 16 - down from 31 but still otherwise high for here. 283 in month. 96 past week. 47 over 2 days (was 40). Pop score 886 - a day or two from the 900 club.

Manchester 66 - down from 71 but still easily second worst total here of the week. 1084 in month (new record). 322 past week (new record). 137 over 2 days (was 108). Pop score 838. Scooting through the 800's.

Oldham 23 - down from 24 but still a little high though has been worse. 681 in month. 141 past week. 47 over 2 days (was 40) Pop score 1295 - back ahead of Blackburn who had a better day. 1300 club tomorrow (first in NW) likely. Only Leicester is worse.

Rochdale 21 - down from 42 to more manageable level. Though still high for here. 416 in month. 136 past week. Closest Rochdale has come over a week to Oldham total. Due to Rochdale rising and Oldham falling a little each. 63 over 2 days (was 52). Pop score 1081.

Salford 19 - big fall from 46. 431 in month. 159 past week, 65 over 2 days (was 66). Pop score 768.

Stockport 10 - down from 17 and lowest in GM today (so no single figures again anywhere but only just as you can see). 197 in month (first sub 200 monthly total Stockport has had in weeks - though was routine a month or two back and it turned out to be a big deal - see later). 66 past week. Clung on to lowest weekly score - with a caveat to follow! Likely to go tomorrow. 27 over 2 days (was 25). Still clung on here too (with caveat!) Pop score 698 - OK number kept it in 600 club likely for one last day.

Tameside 30 - UP from 28 - may need to watch here in coming days. Two record numbers back to back here suggests an outbreak. 351 in month, 125 past week (new record), 58 over 2 days (was 40). Pop score record rise here of 13 to 916.

Trafford 11 - down from 16. 265 in month. 66 past week (same as Stockport - so they share the record until tomorrow when they go head to head to retain it).27 over 2 days (was 25). Same scenario with Stockport here too - exactly! The two towns removed from restrictions last week faring the best still in GM. Pop score 745.

Wigan 22 - up from 15 and worst number here in any day. Seems caught up in the Bolton mess sadly. 200 over month. This huge number today cost it to the monthly title for lowest numbers to Stockport. It has held that for weeks. Though Stockport was there earlier in the pandemic. Stockport, Trafford and Wigan have generally had lower numbers throughout Covid in GM. Finding out why would be useful. But proximity to border outbreaks can be quickly damaging as Wigan can see and so nobody is immune to a change in fortune. 86 in week (and 68 over just 4 days). 37 over 2 days (was 29) - highest ever here. Pop score 735 after biggest daily rise here of 7. Lost ground on race with Stockport here as it did to Trafford.

Yes that is worryingly starting to edge up as I fear is going to happen everywhere. My best friend is very vulnerable and I talk on the phone to her for at least an hour every day. Each week she takes more risks - ones I never would and I have less risk than she does. Try as I might I cannot convince her of the dangers. She has just had enough of locking herself away.

Sadly there is more concerning news on this score too.

Only the England hospital data has updated fully today but it shows some really worrying upticks.

The number in hospital in England rose from yesterday when it was 464 to 537. An increase of 73 to the highest number in two weeks. And it had been going up before then.

The UK total from other sources (we know Scotland rose by 12 today to 256 from Nicola Sturgeon) will now be around 840 - which will be the highest number in 2 - 3 weeks.

Moreover the icu ventilator numbers in England are going back up again as they did in N Ireland last week and started to do again in Scotland today.

There were 62 on ventilators in England today v 52 yesterday.

Two of the Wigan cases are at my daughter's school, pupil and teacher apparently.

The pick-up in cases is not uniform across Europe. I think it might be related to the holiday season. France and Spain saw major increases in areas connected to travel. Infection rates seem to be falling now in Spain. Perhaps the UK pick up has been triggered by overseas travel and will peak over the next few days. If it was part of a seasonal surge, why do we not see this across Europe?
