Regionally here is the England picture. AS you will see it is especially concerning - unsurprisingly I expect - in the North West.

P - patients V - ventilated patients yesterday v today.

East England P 26 v 27 (up) AND V 1/1

South East P 40 v 50 (up) AND V 3/3

South West P 12 v 12 AND V 1/1

London P 82 v 92 n (up) AND 13/13

MIdlands 79 v 95 (up) AND V 9/12 (up 3).

Yprks 86 v 97 (up) AND V 13/17 (up 4)

And North West 139 v 164 (up) AND V 12/15 (up 3).

Rises in most places and nobody down., North West biggest rise with 25 patients and that is the highest number in hospital since 5 August after months of steady falls to that level.

It has risen from 77 to 164 in the past 12 days in the NW. More than doubled.

On 5 August last time the NW had more patients in than today (168) there were 63 on ventilators in the UK (v 62 today) and 2 less on them in the NW. After falling steadily for months in the past 4 weeks they dropped to around 50, plateaued and have now risen back up to where they were a month ago.

On that day 5 Aug patients in other England regions were as follows:

East had 37 MORE people than they do today

South East had 40 MORE people than they do today

London had four MORE than they do today

Midlands had 67 MORE than they do today.

Yorkshire had 27 MORE than they do today.

So all the regions had a lot more people in hospital (though London only a few) then than now.

The only area that has had a substantial rise not decrease is the North West going all the way back to where it was a month ago.

I'm not going straight to A and E with this arm thing. I'm off work this week so will just ask for a GP telephone appt. If they refuse to refer for an x-ray again though I'll just go straight there. It's been 4 months of pain now.
Maybe anything in a surgery is accessible, just hospital referrals that have waiting lists? That would explain the cancer patients thing.
What a bloody mess :-(
Yep the hospital referral system is a mess, you need to go and get it xrayed, chances are a referral from your gp will take ages anyway ,casualty is there, they want people to attend so go !

The pick-up in cases is not uniform across Europe. I think it might be related to the holiday season. France and Spain saw major increases in areas connected to travel. Infection rates seem to be falling now in Spain. Perhaps the UK pick up has been triggered by overseas travel and will peak over the next few days. If it was part of a seasonal surge, why do we not see this across Europe?

To be honest the spikes at the start of the second wave in Spain were in weird places where few tourists would visit like Aragon and Huesca. And then there are holiday destinations like Javea and Asturias that barely had any cases. Eventually the tourist season caused a few spikes especially on the islands but there are far bigger issues here like Madrid and Barcelona which are so densely populated once it starts it's almost impossible to stop.

I might just do that then, cheers. I'll tell them you sent me lol

We were back in the office for the first time today. We've got the radio on and it seems like nothing has changed since we left i.e cases going up, relatives not being allowed in nursing homes, fears of it spreading in schools and the need to test, trace and isolate quicker - Have I woken up in April??!
