Could teachers who are at home for whatever reason or even retired teachers not teach a dozen or so kids who are also at home, using Zoom or similar ?
If only a couple of hours per day,
has to be better then everybody just sitting about at home on social media!

Yes in some cases. We have two members of staff in our faculty who are shielding at home because they are pregnant (maternity leave not officially started yet). I would say that those two should be doing what you suggest as/when year groups/teachers are forced to isolate.

Am I wrong in thinking the daily cases can be as high as they want as long as hospital admission and icu patients stay low, also if there were more people getting it the herd immunity option comes round far quicker.

Hospital admissions and ICU cases are going up (see the charts I posted a couple of pages back). It’s relatively slowly at the moment because the surge in community cases is predominantly in the under 50s, but if more elderly people are infected then hospitalisation will increase at a faster rate.

There is also a time lag between increased infections and hospitalisations. Similarly, the number of serious cases remained high in the Spring / Summer, for a tine, as the amount of daily infections began to fall.

sorry I think you were borderline rude there. I don’t have all the answers and never said I did? But clearly kids being back at school is vital.I have seen the damage 6 months at home has had on mine. The government have an impossible task. Good luck to them.

If only parents took half as much responsibility for their children's education as we do.

During lockdown we HAD to send home the same work they would have done in school, we HAD to perform assessment still, we HAD to perform welfare checks, we HAD to provide meals...the only kids who have come back 'damaged' seem to be the ones where the parents have let them do sweet FA for 6 months.

If there's another school closure, we're even better prepared this time around, so there are few excuses IMHO. The only reason to keep them open if numbers and deaths spiral again is to keep parents in the office and give free childcare - an economic decision, but we already know the Tories value the economy over lives.

Systems are in place for pre-recorded lessons, if you like, again as per my post a minute ago, the only weak point is parents who don't enforce their children's learning.

So the media reports during the Spring and Summer that fee paying schools were far better prepared for on-line learning were wrong? I am just asking because the media are often wrong.

Maybe teachers could have a word with their Trades Union representatives who, IMHO, have contributed to an impression that teachers weren’t fully committed to the education of their students. Obviously, there have been many dedicated teachers education the families of front line workers, preparing for the return to wider school openings etc.

To my mind, the lag in hospitalisations is the biggest issue, as no-one knows exactly what it will be, and a surge there is several days behind a surge in cases. The damage may have been done before it becomes obvious.

You will always, in any industry, get those who are committed, and those who are there to pick up a wage. Teaching, and education in general, in my experience, is no different.

I would imagine private schools *are* more prepared - I'd guess their technology infrastructure is largely better and their pupils all have devices. Unfortunately plenty of poor kids don't have a laptop/pc to do work on (although strangely they have massive TVs and playstations...)

Buggeration, think I've got symptoms now, I can barely reach the kitchen. Tried for a home testing kit but they have none in stock so direct me to the walk in centre...

NHS COVID-19 Notification: Dear Centurions

Birth date - Old

Your coronavirus test result is negative. You did not have the virus when the test was done.
If you feel well but someone you live with tests positive or you've been traced as a contact of someone who tested positive you must still self-isolate. Follow the guidance on 14 days self-isolation. If you get symptoms of coronavirus, get tested and self-isolate for 10 days from when they start.
If you're not a contact you may return to work if you've not had a fever for 48 hours and feel well. Talk to your employer first.
If you're shielding, or this is for a care home resident, follow the guidance. If the care home resident still has symptoms they may need a repeat test.
If this result is for a child or staff member at school or nursery, tell the school or nursery.
Contact 111 if you need medical help. In an emergency, dial 999.

GTFI, still feel like crap mind so I guess Flu again since I've had it twice previously.
