Since they outsourced it to the highly trained and experienced test and tracing companies Serco and G4S it’s been going backwards, surprisingly enough.

If what you are asking is, can you test negative but still have the virus before you get the symptoms, then I think the answer is yes, so you should be able to get tested again as soon as possible, though I'm not sure you should go to a walk in test centre if you have symptoms because you should really self isolate. I'd phone the 111 service and get clarification though.Just a quick question.

Sounds like one of the craziest proposals I have seen regarding Covid, we are struggling to test people as it is and we had NHS staff on the frontline wearing bin bags so not a chance our government could organise something on that scale.
A saliva test will certainly help if it is accurate enough. The swab right down your throat method is likely deterring some people from fear of the discomfort of the process alone.
