COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Sounds like one of the craziest proposals I have seen regarding Covid, we are struggling to test people as it is and we had NHS staff on the frontline wearing bin bags so not a chance our government could organise something on that scale.

I think Boris has just had his bleach moment if you look at the Trump method on stupidity.

I dont wish to be stupid or confused but at the end of the month we 'are' having a family and friends celebration. We have all booked our own tables within our family groups so the missus, 2 sons and me one one table etc. As we are all friends and family we now cant do this as we know each other ? But I can still book a table among complete strangers ?

Just a quick question.

I came into contact (worked with) someone who tested positive for Covid on Monday and Tuesday. I had a test yesterday, work recommended me to get a test but I didnt have any symptoms and still awaiting results.

In the last hour or so I am feeling unwell with a burning sensation in throat, dry cough , chesty cough.
If result comes back negative, am I able to get another test at a walk in testing centre? As I have seen that you can be tested before you get the virus

False negatives are quite common in the first day or two of infection as it takes a while for enough virus to build up and be detected by the swab. This is why the advice is now to not get a test unless you're symptomatic.

When I was staying with my parents in June they both got it and I got two tests that week that came back negative. It wasn't until I actually got symptoms a few days later myself that I came back positive.

If your other one comes back negative but you're feeling ill now I would try seek another test. And you should probably isolate until you get the result back. Hope you're ok though!

Scotland data up first:

0 deaths

159 new cases (at 1.9 %)

Avg daily number 155 up from 52 in past three weeks and % risen from under 1% to over 2% (though just below today happily).

274 in hospital (+7) and 6 on icu ventilators (same)

A week ago it was 1 death with 156 cases at 1% of tests, 258 in hospital (-5) and 5 on ventilator (-1).

As you can see hospital numbers are still rising and 16 up in a week. Biggest rise in months.

There is now no denying this is a pattern in Scotland and the North West and London after months of steadily falling hospital patient numbers.

And that the icu cases going back up in both nations has also become real and reversed the same months long trend of them going down.

Not sure if it's been mentioned or not, but seen a few people commenting regarding lab results being missing or delayed from today's numbers, so the number of positive cases might actually be unrealistically low.

Transmissions are being caused in the main not in the workplace but large gatherings in pubs, homes etc hence the new ruling. It isn't that difficult to grasp surely

I didn't realise you are a virologist. If that's the case then why are the govt happy for Doncaster races (involving large crowds) to go ahead which goes against their new rule being implemented next week...

There's been transmissions caused in various work places as well. It's not hard to grasp my point that it's inconsistent in that you can't meet up with more than 6 members of your family for lets say a funeral but you can share a meeting room or office with more than 6 strangers you happen to work with...

Of today's Scottish infections announced

9 in over 65s
4 in kids 0-4
21 in the 5-19 age range
125 infections in 20-64 range.
