COVID-19 — Coronavirus

There's nothing quite like this virus for conflicting information - yesterday Johnson said "we're heading in the wrong direction" and today the R factor is falling although in the BBC article another scientist disputes this idea and thinks it's been at a constant 1.4 for the past two weeks. It's no wonder that ordinary people are confused.

Well it is confusing really. You can sense it on this thread.
The science appears to skate over various theories and possibilities (the T/B cells conundrum and the recent discussions over some people being super spreaders).
It's causing a huge rift between people (facilitated, of course, by social media). With many business owners having to let their staff go or families not being able to see each other it's all highly stressful for many.
Think back to those early reports (of yet another Far Eastern virus or another breakout on a cruise) and how most of us were convinced this would not really be an issue (even up to the 'air elbowing' jests).
We, in 2020, were on the cusp of medical revolutions, bio-med would show just how far advanced us humans are....then being utterly floored by a microscopic virus.
There's no silver bullet for answers at the moment but we cling onto optimism or deep rooted pessimism and the fireworks begin.

''The REACT 1 study is tracking current cases of COVID-19 in the community by testing more than 150,000 randomly-selected people each month over a two-week period. Volunteers take nose and throat swabs at home, which are then analysed in a laboratory by a technique called RT-PCR.

Out of 84,610 swabs analysed so far for this latest round of testing, 363 tested positive, giving an estimated prevalence of 0.55%. This means that across the entire population, an estimated 411,000 people have the virus that causes COVID-19.

"Our ongoing community testing programme is helping to ensure that the UK response is based on current, robust evidence.”
Prof Steven Riley
School of Public Health, Imperial
Prevalence was highest in those aged 18-24 at 0.96%. In those aged 65 and above, prevalence increased 7-fold from 0.04% to 0.29% compared to the last report.

Prevalence increased in all parts of the country, with the North West remaining the highest at 0.86%. Cases also increased substantially in London, rising 5-fold from 0.10% to 0.49%. Similar to the previous report, Black and Asian people were found to be twice as likely to be infected compared to white people.

Professor Steven Riley, study author and Professor of Infectious Disease Dynamics at Imperial, said: “These findings highlight that the situation in England is fast-moving, and demonstrate the need for continued engagement from the public to prevent unnecessary hospitalisations and deaths. Our ongoing community testing programme is helping to ensure that the UK response is based on current, robust evidence.”

The final report and findings of all 150,000 volunteers tested between 18th September and 5th October will be published next week.''

Some very interesting numbers there, over 400,000 people currently have the virus!

Watch the Lids documentary on Prime. See how they celebrated their promotion. Looks worse than the dippers

Yes they had 2 nights of partying, one in the City Centre and one at the ground where they had hired an open top bus in the middle of the pandemic.

I was having some banter with Leeds SC veteran in the pub on Sunday about Saturday’s game. Come on City!

Thing is this rule of six is rubbish. Say you’re a family of four, mother is a housewife father has been furloughed for months and they’re financially struggling. Brother of the father invites them for tea, as he knows they’re struggling, he has a wife and 2 kids, they breaking the law but in my opinion are doing absolutely nothing wrong.

It’s all turning into an even bigger farce than I thought would be possible.

Yes and middle class privately educated people like Corbyn simply must have their dinner parties that they are accustomed to.;)
Seriously its very difficult to have a one size fits all solution especially when of necessity its a small size.
