This is the crucial thing, students getting it isn't a bad thing as they don't require hospital treatment, usually, as soon as they mix in pubs restaraunts clubs with the general public, it cause transmission to those that either might or live with peple that might. Stopping that cross transmission is crucial to protect hospitals.
Simples - ban students from pubs then.

Obviously, I’m not being entirely serious with that but I do have a bee in my bonnet that pubs are taking the brunt of this. Early on when they reopened back in July I myself thought they would be a proper breeding ground and the Aberdeen incident kind of reinforced my view. I said on here that I would be relatively comfortable going in city centre pubs as there would be plenty of eyes on them to ensure they were enforcing regulations but I was nervous about going in local pubs round here as there wouldn’t be the same level of scrutiny and even if they had good intentions to keep on top of things, it can go south pretty quickly once more and more alcohol is consumed.

In the meantime, the regs have gotten stricter with table service only, masks to be worn when not at the table, etc, and I’ve found that more reassuring. I even heard that the local pubs round here were abiding by it, so on Saturday night for the first time since late February I ventured out to a local boozer to watch our game against Leeds. I had to walk down there early in the afternoon to book a table (while stood outside in the pissing rain as I’d forgotten my mask), and when I turned up just after 5pm to claim our pre-booked table (this time with my mask) the landlady was on the door asking the lead booker of each table to download the track and trace app and scan themselves in. The mask and table service policy was strictly enforced and to be honest, it felt like they were on top of things more than most supermarkets.

Mark Drayford just announcing that he will be putting travel restrictions from England to Wales if UK gov doesn't act on Monday.

I used two pubs in East London last night. One to see some friends and then the other for the match. The differences in attitude were staggering...

Unfortunately there are some pubs that are very lax about enforcement of the rules. This is why all pubs will suffer. Authorities should be closing down the ones that don't comply and leaving the good ones open. That way the good pubs benefit all round.

Earlier a journalist compared the bar/cafe/restaurant differences/definitions for purpose of the new rules to the court case over whether a Jaffa cake was a cake or a biscuit.

NIcola Sturgeon said clearly she did not recall the case but in her view it is undoubtedly a biscuit.

Whether you agree with her or not (I do here if it matters) I am trying to picture Boris Johnson handling the same question and suspect we would still be trying to decipher the meaning of his mumbling reply.

This kind of thing matters a lot when you are trying to get a nation weary after months of restrictions to do even more hard things for an unknown period of time. You need to have developed a bond of mutual trust.
Confusion even in Scotland.

Court case found that it was a cake though

I agree. I have seen how some in here seem to attack Nicola Sturgeon but I watch her conferences every day as you know from my posts here and - whatever you think of her politics - she conveys things in a clear and concise way that you trust. It has to make it easier to get people to follow rules if they believe that whether they agree or not with the conclusions the decision was taken honestly and is being presented clearly.

Completely agree.
I think her background is law, isn't it? Lawyers tend to try to be clear in what they're saying.

Has anyone asked her view on whether it is a barm or a muffin?

Horrific. If hospital figures keep doubling in a week, how long before it's at full capacity? Similar story with ICU. Can't understand any claim that these figures aren't ridiculously high and have huge potential to go as bad as if not much worse than the first wave. And that's even with better treatment and knowledge of virus now.
The BBC reported that Northern Ireland has 16 ICU beds. I hope that was an error.
