any answer as to why Italy has been such a shitshow?

I’d like to know how they have become ground zero for most of Europe and even Africa and part of Asia

The first case was not even considered to be anything to do with the virus until patient zero in italy had been out and about unkniwingly spreading the virus.

Add to that a slow reaction form thir governent at first and no planing led to it spreading.

For example the man who died in southern italy had been in lombardy during the outbreak travelled home, got sick, died was then tested, allowed to be burried with over 70 people attending and then his wife and some friends and family caught it.

Because Italy was first and unprepared other european states have learnt from that

Why do people keep comparing it to flu and using total deaths as some sort of proof that we’ve got nothing to worry about? It’s that complacency that’s going to fuck us all. In a month there’ll be 100k cases, and in two months it’s into the millions. Unless we all temporarily change the way are living right now, slow the spread and help the NHS out. We’re not having that much asked of us really in the grand scheme of things, but I see people making up their own shite logic as to why they should scoff at the professional advice and just do as they please. So many idiots at work thinking like that. I’m working from home 2 days a week as per normal, but I’ll be requesting that it’s 5. Too much complacency from people at my workplace, don’t want to be anywhere near them.

the thing is there really little to nothing you can do other than wear a full bodysuit and mask, when its in the air and you need to breath then even the best protection is not 100% safe
i quoted the flu because of the link to phenomena and its what kills if you catch the coronavirus ? the body immune system is the key to any fight against it (coronavirus) and to drink plenty of water and take proper food and vitamins and just keep on living your normal life, yes the older and the weaker body systems people have then your in the hands of the GODS and its down to staying indoors really

Read up on it mate. For full protection yes, you need the full "ebola style" gear. But the idea that cheap masks offer no protection is a myth.

depends on the mask, half the ones you see on a train etc will do very little / nothing.

Decent n95 one apparently offer 5x protection. 5x what I don’t know.

Yep. And Covid-19 has a higher R0 meaning it’s easier to catch and it’s fatality rate is at least a magnitude greater. And up to 4x worse than that (ie 40x more lethal than flu).

Happy days.

the truth is nobody really knows the full damage it could have on the population and at the moment its the weak and the old that are the most targeted by it, yes its scary but panic stations no

“Man/woman returns from Northern Italy without coronavirus” would be big news
These days there's this phrase thrown around in the Italian web "If we all advance coughing we might rebuild the Roman Empire."

Taking all of that into consideration I still think the spread within the north of Italy seems very rapid, and a number of people throughout the world, not just Europe, have contracted it in Italy and taken it back to their own countries

And also the first patient (who's still in intensive care) participated in two marathons (full of people and spanning different areas) and an amateur football match while unknowingly having the virus. Then when he fell ill he walked into the hospital, another place full of sick people. So not the best situation for the first case in the country.

By the way studies on the virus showed that the first person in Europe to catch it was probably a German in Bavaria, who didn't show evident symptoms.

Edit: we also have a very old general population.
