Pence has already stated that the admin are going to attempt to ensure public (Medicare/Medicaid) and private insurance “covers” the cost of testing.
But the practicality of that is being disputed by many legal and healthcare industry analysts (as it would take legislation specifically forcing private insurance to directly pay for any costs associated with testing).
I think it should be done, of course, as not doing it will lead to many more people not seeking testing or treatment to avoid the cost (many will do that anyway, regardless of whether the testing or treatment is “free”, as the potential of being confirmed to have it and being forced to self-isolate would also ruin them financially). But I do agree it goes against the supposed American ideals of free market capitalism. But those ideals are often at odds with the public (and, ironically, economic) good.
I don't disagree with you that it "should be done". However, a private business is a private business in the States, no? I note the key word here is "attempt".
Very nicely input, Mr Pence.
Like you've hinted at, imagine asking the insurance companies to cover the costs of testing. Wouldn't that hit their profit margin? If that's the case, wouldn't they ask the gov to subsidise coverage?
And if that's the case wouldn't that be 'socialising medicine'?
And, if that's the case, wouldn't that be red scare of communism...??
Funny when a snake eats itself.
