New cases and deaths in the Uk up but lower than I expected.

I think the number of new cases (63) is just Scotland and Wales and we've yet to see the new numbers for England (and NI?), but numbers of new deaths I think are for the whole UK.

Very odd, I assume this is a blip or an anomaly and that tomorrow's figures will then be a huge jump.

It's a good conspiracy theory but everyone admitted to ICU is being tested, and COPD or otherwise, no one is just dropping dead of this, it's a progressive illness - they're spending days in ICU before dying.

The idea that people are just dropping dead without being tested has no basis in the facts.

Maybe a dumb question, But does more people catching the virus mean more of the virus disappears ?

Not really a dumb question. I'm no expert but I heard a professor on the radio the other day saying that the more of us who get it and develop an immunity to it, that in itself should make it harder to flourish in the future. Of course, that's just a very generalistic view and we don't know the probability of catching this thing more than once, etc. Plus we don't want it to spread too quickly of course.

So you think the workers at care homes are just completely ignoring the very clear and obvious symptoms of coronavirus and just locking them in a room for 2 weeks until they die?

Explain to us a scenario where someone is coughing so violently they're throwing up and have a fever off the charts for close to 10 days before dying and no one at the care home notices?

And why hasn't there been massive outbreaks in care homes with this incredibly infectious virus? You wouldn't just have 1 or 2 deaths, we've seen in China, South Korea and Seattle that this thing is wiping out near enough the entire population of a home when it gets in.

They are testing people admitted to hospital, so it tells us roughly how many are in hospital from it.

very important to not look at single day values. Multi -week trends are more useful.

Yes, I can professionally confirm that inferences from trends are usually much more reliable and insightful than single metric inferences, especially as the latter is nearly always without context and individually is of low confidence.

If you watch the news outlets the slebs have their faces all over suffering for their art, some are self isolating on tropical islands even though the paid for help aren't as attractive as the normal staff.

Yes to a point as the cases out there are far more than those tested, but yesterdays big jump was partly explained by more tests being done so this drop while probably a blip is a bit odd.

Someone spreading rumours that the death toll is secretly much higher because people in care homes are dropping dead 1 day after a sore throat is the last thing we need.

yes that is important in that regard. But there’s not much point in being happy or surprised by lower numbers - people getting it. According to experts it could be 50,000 + with it

I think we will see a bigger impact in the next two weeks, if it’s similar to Italy or Spain

Presumably then you no longer believe it and will gladly say so?

Otherwise talk us through exactly how a care home patient catches and dies from this with no one noticing and without infecting their whole care home - which is what happened in every other country.

Seems like our respective employers on here are a mixed bag. I was staying in doors because I’ve had symptoms and my parents aren’t well. Was working from home, but my boss wanted me back in. The rest of the department kicked off and demanded I called the dr.

woke up to a text from my manager begging me not to and come in because the dr would only say stay at home. I was fuming

What it is with Managers,Supervisors and Owners.Can`t they see the bigger picture ? Glad that your workmates saw more sense than your boss.

I wonder if we're actually using the malaria and HIV medication that early trials seem to be suggesting are effecting against the virus. Trump is going on about it now but the Australians and French (amongst others) have also been doing testing with those drugs that looks promising. Not sure where they are manufactured or what supplies of them with have in the UK but if the results continue to look good, every country will be after them.

So what's being said I's that someone in a care home with a pre existing condition, gets a sore throat dies the next day and their cause of death is put down as their existing conditions?
