Can't understand why manufacturers haven't shut shop and let the workers stay at home, unless you make pharmaceutical equipment or can diversify then whatever you make is going nowhere.
If you have a small set up then not going into the scheme where the government pays the wages could run you into dire straits.

My company car is going back on the 31st of March when I take redundancy, there's a recall due and I checked this morning... still going ahead

I am going to combine the trip with an essential shop and also charge the car (it's an EV) but I was surprised that the dealer isn't now closed....

Perhaps the dealer sells food and medicine as well as cars . Seriously I would of thought car dealers have to close.

Government policy being set by Dominic Cummings - whether you love or loathe him he’s a very odd individual so that might give a clue to the erratic nature of government policy just now. Interestingly we seem to be moving in stages as Italy, France and Spain did but given we’ve had time to see how this has impacted them you have to wonder why we haven’t just moved to a full on lock down that the likes of Italy has now rather than repeat their mistakes.
I suspect Marvin is right on this but am sure that the Gov will blame the pace of emergency progress being delayed by democratic processes within the HOC.
In other words, he needs overwhelming MP support for his bills because they will guarentee his long term position.

My mate works in a phone shop and has been told he is a key worker so is still in work, crazy

Electeonics shops are specifically listed for closure. His bosses are muppets.

It is NOT about what IS/ISN't key/essential!

It is about whether it is essential to leave the house in order to do it.

My mates a plumber and the building site he's working on got shut down by the Police today, i thought construction was still allowed ?

Construction company I used to work for still have several sites in London open!

And so they should, i beleive the guidance is there for that.

Similarly, many sites are taking it on themselves to shut, that is how they are inrerpreting the guidance. Entirely their call, in both sides.

interestingly and uniquely- the opposition and much of the public actually want the government to go further and act more quickly... it’s the government that is being reticent and being overly apologetic.

My mate as of 11pm last night still didnt know if halfords was closing or not .....he hasnt answer my text this morning yet so I dont know if halfords is open or closed . I would have thought closed , with perhaps halfords auto centre being on reduced hours for any front line worker who might have a car problem that's needed to get to and from work

Pretty much everywhere closed round here. Looks like all the factories on the industrial estate by us have done the right thing.

So not ok for five people who can wear masks and stay 2m apart and arranged a wedding months ago, in a low infection rate area, but the same people going to a supermarket and mixing with dozens is OK.
I know you have comprehension difficulties but you have to eat. You don’t generally have to marry.

There, that wasn’t too difficult, was it?

P.S. Wish I’d had a blow-out meal Instead, all those years ago.

No, he, well actually yes he is, but in this case he probably realises the damage of them shutting is greater than some of the virus spreading, while slowing down elsewhere.

They have been clear, this isn't about stopping it, it is about slowing it down so the NHS can cope, and economy remain somewhat stable.

Think the issue is that too many businesses are being classed as essential, thats the fault of the government and in some circumstances the business themselves. For example in this scenario I wouldn't class construction as essential (unless they're building hospitals) but they're being classed as essential at the moment.

Missing the point, as are many getting hung up on what is or isn't essential.

It isn't the type of work, but how it is carried out, that makes the difference whether it is essential to leave the house or not.

If you have to work on site, it is essential to leave the house.
