Im seriously beginning to think 1 or 2 on here are desperate for the figures to surpass elsewhere so they can say I told you so, fucking embarrassing how many people are either not reading the stats correctly or putting their own spin on it to suit their agenda.
Grow up ffs
Every country is using a daily figure,we all know there is a lag,if it wasnt a useful figure it would not be used in the briefings

Every death which day it is included on is a tragedy, nobody is playing games here

They are using every day as a data point at the briefing,we are being shown the trends using them and other data
The graph they show is the total death slope, the daily graph they show is new infections. They give a daily figure of new deaths added to the total they don’t show a graph of daily deaths. The media do.

Billy has had his head stitched up and we're all in the minibus, going to cycle along the canal in our new lycra pants two abreast tomorrow just to take our minds off the lockdown and utilise our divine right to exercise
Pussys, all the blues down here are on strawbs and we’re gonna give it the cockney reds, fanny all over us, think it’s the rag shirt. Bbq til 2 if u stay.

update, old bill just stormed the beach, we did well, managed to get a helmet off one of the spoil sports twats, have they got no real crime to deal with, anyway we’re off to Newquay bobs gaff, major

They still use a daily figure,it must be useful for them in some way, everyone understands what that figure is about and not an exact 24hr number, anyway, every one is a life,i wish it was zero

Tests People tested Positive results Deaths
Daily 19,116 13,543 5,706 980
Total 316,836 256,605 73,758 8,958

It’s misleading when used to compare against any daily total for any other country.

I’ve no issue with you reposting the daily figure (though not sure why you need to when it’s been posted about 50 times today), I take issue with you posting “higher than x or y country’s largest daily total” because it’s misleading and irrelevant and most certainly isn’t comparing apples with apples.

And lock downs aren’t based on any daily figure such as the one you quote, lock downs will be based on hospital admissions and ICU availability.

Do we know that other countries are reporting a different way?

Spain, for example, does the same as us and sees a big increase on Tuesdays because it encompasses previous days. We have the same increase on Wednesdays.

I don’t know about Italy but it makes sense that not every death on a particular day is reported on that same day because every country will be experiencing the same administrative issues as us.

It’ll be difficult to see who’s ahead or who’s behind when the differences are marginal over a short period but I think there’s still a lot to be taken from the data which is presumably why the UK Government publishes it.

Had a really interesting chat with a good friend of mine who is pretty senior within a big local authority last night. Been trying to get in touch with him for days, but he’s been too busy to get back to me.

He’s been given incredible delegated powers by the government. Says he cannot believe the amount of money that’s been thrown at him by central government, who have been very supportive he says. He feels they are working 24/7 on this. His council has a lot of social deprivation and the main message coming from Whitehall towards him is make sure people are fed. Says all available enforcement resources within his LA are focused on social distancing - and that following this there will be a huge amount of prosecutions for profiteering and trades descriptions etc.. Loads of hand wash being mis-sold as being anti-bacterial; not surprising really.

People are cunts.

Well maybe one or 2 need to stop posting the figures unless they put the whole facts there instead of cherry picking what they’re saying.

I am sticking to my opinion that tens of millions have had it.
I'd say there is zero chance of that.

10% of the population would be a stretch. 20m+ is completely impossible.

We're there that many, we'd be seeing falling figures due to reducing numbers of potential new infectees.

The stats from Austria indicate we perhaps have 1% infected, so circa 700k. They might be out, but not 30x out.

I don’t think it’s fair to criticise people for quoting the figures that are released by the government and then quoted by the media. By all means question the validity of those numbers, but it’s a bit shitty to suggest some people are hoping for more deaths. Nobody wants that.

Have a listen to yourself FFS.

People are desperate to hear of higher numbers of deaths? What a sick and quite ridiculous thing to suggest.

everybody with some sense ? me included hahaha. must feel like why on earth do people not listen or watch the people dropping dead or can not breath from this virus and think twice about wanting to mix together or go out to meet others

i heard somebody say the other day that the virus feels like dry drowning without water ? that alone is enough for me and many other to think twice and respect the lock down ? the fear of death by drowning must be the worst thing ever but dry drowning i would not wish that on anybody

i know how hard breathing can by with being asthmatic and also having panic attracts. so thinking of this virus and want it can do to people i want to shout at people just taking the piss ? we all have to be in this together and take others into account. and stop thinking of yourself because you think your superman or wonder woman. if you don't want to the listen and respect the lock down. just remember you will be old one day. and if somebody in the future is asking you to stay in doors because of a killer virus that is killing the older age group. or the people that have a weaker immune system ? remember your own selfish views back then and don't expect the younger people to respect you

@BlueHammer85

On a related theme, I did wonder if Hancock and Starmer should be making joint statements about staying in. Or just perhaps a broadcast by the Labour arty saying the same thing.

I do wonder if there's a small element -
dickheads - who won't take any notice because the guidance is being given by "the Tories'?

People need to be realistic. The Easter weekend and staff shortages will likely see comparatively smaller numbers over the next 3-4 days, but then as next week progresses, there’ll likely be one day when the figure is significantly higher. A truly horrible time for all families and especially those workers facing it countless times a day.
