Chris Witty at the select committee yesterday explained that until they have a better idea where Rt is they can't recommend any change. They currently calculate it by back dating ICU admissions and deaths but that will change with the new weekly PCR tests along with the antibody testing which he said was not reliable enough for an individual test but would be useful on a large scale to monitor the spread.

Oh the antibody test that doesn't exist. Couldn't make it up.

The message or slogan has been ‘Save the NHS.’ Why, because we do not have enough critcal care beds. So the govn’t create Nightingale Hospitals.

However the Nightingale hospitals are under utilised and modelling should have shown that would happen. But what if the modelling was based on Herd Immunity. If so then sending people back to work now to save the economy would mean as a country we are now covered. Extra NHS staff, extra care beds all now in place. Now the government can get us out of this recession, but at a cost of lives.

This will be the pay off, the Nightingales will become Covid only, anyone suspected of having it will be taken there instead of other hospitals, over the year they will get full, the hospitals A&E etc will return to normal, then come Xmas lockdown from November I reckon as winter flu etc kick in, so as not to overwhelm the system. Get your Xmas shopping in early and don’t expect to be seeing your elderly relatives Xmas day.

Our fuckers eased lot of restrictions yesterday. Kids and old can go out for few hours 3 times a week and that's ok if they show some discipline. They changed quarantine for home self-isolation and that's probably not ok as people showed already they are not disciplined in that. But the worst thing is that they cancelled the night curfew and the only reason they did it is because of Ramadan, there is absolutely zero other logic in it, restaurants and bars are still banned, people not in sub-18 and over-65 could move freely during the day. We have a strong tradition of socializing on Ramadan evening meals so I'm afraid we might ruin everything good we did so far. And it was decent over here so far - 1500 cases, 55 deaths. The worst thing is that health ministry didn't agree with canceling curfew, but political part did it anyway. Populism is more important than science.

A reliable one that any proper dr would give any patient individual advice does not exist,prof whitty has said it twice this week,there is one that is ok for survey purposes

In the states the FDA has let 100 tests go onto the market,most not better than placebo

My local hospital have just published official death figures related to Covid. We have seen 44 directly related deaths in the last 6 weeks. This is roughly 1 per day. The hospital serves an immediate and local radius population of around 500,000. I am not sure why (maybe lower BAME population or London and Midlands weightings), but it seems we are bucking the trend as the daily death mean for that size of population should be nearer 4 per day.

I say make the super rich pay their dues on this pandemic - it's globalisation and the chase of profit that caused it to spread so quick.

I'm not saying make them, I'm saying a gesture would be nice instead of hiding away in castles.

Realistically, what restrictions can really be relaxed though...?

They've said repeatedly they need to maintain social distancing and all the closures at the moment are literally made to ensure social distancing can be maintained.

The only thing I can see feasibly being lifted is people being outside for things other than essential / excercise.

If they let people play tennis, golf, or go fishing and boating then the pavements would be less crowded with people walking. I think they could do quite a lot of creative things which could make life easier for people.
Sadly I will be in for the long haul because the things I love most, other than family, are pubs and football, and they will be the last to come back.

The media/ various newspapers seem to be obsessed with getting everybody back to work right now. If that happens soon my fear is there will be a second wave and many more people will die. But seems like with football money talks

For work I would have to get on probably a packed train, which I would be incredibly uncomfortable doing

A few weeks ago there was mass outrage in tabloids at the prospect of a “herd immunity” strategy being adopted. Now everyone is advocating for a lifting of the lockdown despite us averaging 700 odd deaths a day.

We’re supposed to be on lockdown yet B&Q is open for business. Possible this should go into the political thread but government needs to stop obfuscating. Media and general population will be split on whichever they do.

No because it is not broadcast,that is not how the monach works,they will all be doing something also in her role as the queen she has addressed us 2 or 3 times,as has charles and william,wills has donated to tom 's fund,it seems odd you have gone for the queen a couple of times but not other rich people

Well it should be broadcast then. It seems to me they are doing nothing. Addressing us? No one cares. It's not the 17th century. She should make a statement saying how much the monarchy are giving us back to help the country. I'm not anti royal kaz, I'm just saying the message should be clearer. We shouldnt have to read between the lines to get the story

TBH my neighbours across from me about 70+ go out in their car everyday no exaggeration sometimes more than once. Go out like clockwork. Then they go for a walk.
