Yeah, agree with that. How long do we wait though? It's a shit show no doubt but we couldn't go on like this.

Until testing is readily available, track and trace operational and mask wearing is mandatory in public places. BMA has issued a statement calling for masks to be worn in public. Our mask wearing take up is around 20%. Elsewhere in Europe it is 60 to 70%. Even the US has States where they are making mask wearing mandatory.

One of the purposes of lockdown is to prepare the economy to function safely with no vaccine because you are right we can’t go on like this forever but if we don’t prepare properly we will be screwed.

Right, but the idea that "we all have to get back to work to pay tax or the money will run out" is wide of the mark.
There's a Dutch economist historian called Rutger something who'd agree with you.

He's take on it is, there are plenty of people who are involved in unproductive activity anyway that get paid. In addition the elite skim off massive amounts of money.

So 3 months lockdown we can cope with economically as long as the rich don't continue to take their unearned income.

Rutger Bregman.

All settings deaths today 280 (according to BBC). The figure was 233 last Tuesday and 286 the week before.

So that is a bit of a blow. An awful lot of add ons from outside hospital it seems. Well over 200.

Counter to all the good news lately.
I'm afraid all the good news of which you talk is only good news if living in a UK bubble.

These numbers are ridiculously high when compared with Spain, Italy, France, countries who've had similar problems to the UK.

Testing is readily available. Track and tracing has been a shambles but the manual system will be improving and is probably contributing to the falling number of infections. The minority are wearing masks but it is now the norm on public transport so this could be extended. Most people have been social distancing if we believe "the science" from the press conference charts (rather than the minority of piss taking ravers etc).

When UK daily deaths exceeddc 1K for weeks and confirmed infections were around 5K, I think most people would have thought we would be coming out of lockdown when reported deaths were averaging about 100 per day and infections about 1,000. People can take precautions to reduce the risks from the virus and need to step this up wherever possible.

More death sentences will be handed out by His Majesty the Grim Reaper if this Economy gets any worse, its on it's knees, no taxes through Business and employment equals Austerity that has not ever been witnessed ever. As others have already alluded to its a massive balancing act that I do not envy any leader or Party to have to make. Avoiding this Virus is simple, stick to the fucking rules and don't be a dick which I am afraid is difficult for most.
The vast majority of the vulnerable have and will stick to the rules.
Try telling people in care homes or people on public transport that avoiding this virus is simple.
And as you said ,its difficult for most to not be dicks . But its the vulnerable that will pay the price once they are having to mix with them if they have to use public transport and also in work .

This, the rest of society can get to work and we could still have shielded our most vulnerable. It's what a humane society does.

Whitty gave the impression that he wasn’t exactly in favour of what the government are doing here.

When you stick to solely keeping coronavirus at bay then everyone should stay locked in their rooms forever until a vaccine. If my job was chief medical officer that would be my advice - but for all other aspects , it’s simply not feasible.

There's too many conflicting messages now. There's no scientific consensus, it's a shambles.

Early into the outbreak the government insisted masks would make no difference to combatting the spread of the virus and discouraged people from wearing them, while there was plenty of evidence from South East Asia that they were a huge factor in reducing transmission of the SARS virus in 2004.

Now everyone's being told to wear them when they can, months on. It's a joke and just makes people distrusting and unsure on what to believe.
