There is as much of a lockdown in Tier 3 as a national lockdown and it isn't working
You're not famous? Pfft...doesn't matter, keep the info coming ;-)I wish. Not remotely famous, sorry. Or that good at maths.
why do people keep going on about Sweden ffs, as if it's some utopian society free of Covid where everyone can mingle and it's all fine.
Because deep down we’re jealous that their women are better looking than British womenwhy do people keep going on about Sweden ffs, as if it's some utopian society free of Covid where everyone can mingle and it's all fine.
It is but we as a nation are NOT following the rules - 20% are, 30% are not and 50% break quarantine on occasion to get important stuff! If you were in a collective group, a desert island, or a hospital ward and a virus entered your population, quarantine is about the only defence you have. I understand social protests by groups who are facing impoverishment and this is a problem because decisions are made by officials who exclude people from information, decision-making and power but ultimately quarantine is a sound medical strategy.
There won’t be a more detailed place for information than this forum. From local to national to international figures, to facts about Vitamin D, potassium, obesity, and the economy... this place is the best source of information going!Think BBC NW are reading this column (only joking!)
They just did a summary on ups and downs in NW and how Merseyside is improving and GM going the other way and I was smiling as it almost exactly matched what I have been posting over the past few days in my evening reports.
Reassuring to be ahead of the news.
Imperial Study - So it cant be trusted. 2.5 times higher than the Zoe and ONS studies.Bad all over the south mainly going off that.
But hey as sumarised here yesterday it may upset the cornish if the south is locked down so let's leave it.
No fucker in westminster gave a shite locking down the north all when places like barrow were practically covid safe.
The south is fucked lock the lot down and support those affected.
If people behaved as they should then the measures would workthis Is what I don’t understand there is no analysis or stats on growth in those areas who have been locked down and those that haven’t .
if it was shown to work then people would support it .
we have been locked down in Manchester for months and cases are going up. Yet equally those areas who have had relaxed restrictions have also been going up.
equally countries in Europe and Far East who adopt harsh lockdowns are no more successful than those that have a more guidance based approach .
i don’t know the answer it’s just all bloody odd.
All women are good looking, some just are better looking than others :)Because deep down we’re jealous that their women are better looking than British women
Hi Karen,I think 2-3 weeks now , as i kept saying but got shot down for being negative , winter was going to be the worst time , longer if not so much of a peak but more deadly , this is the priority at hand imo, we have to protect the nhs , there is no other option . Also if people want any kind of holidays we have to interupt the spread now , as soon as people start travelling and mixing then it will rocket , short sharp lockdowns to depress the spread till we get to spring is our best weapon , our only weapon , we have to manage it so the nhs doesnt collapse , it struggles in normal winter as it is
A better exit plan has to be thought through , it was handled all wrong last time and the cumming thing didnt help either, i dont know how to do it , the scientists are not being listened too, i wish we had different people in charge but we are lumbered with what we have
Tell people straight and not pussyfoot around , you want dec 25 th then you have to do this now , all this we are hoping and maybe is not working , people need a slap, proper leadership
The worst mistake was sending kids back to uni , remote learning where possible was fine , it has worked for donkeys years for those who cant get to a uni , half hearted herd immunity which has sped up the spread massively
Excellent quote! All women are good looking, some just are better looking than others :)
Of course, that is what herd immunity is all about. But there's 67m people in the country and IIRC they were talking about something like 45m infected in order for herd immunity to see the virus naturally die out. (And that assumed that once infected, you could not be reinfected, which it seems is not true).
We're nowhere near that infection rate and even at 5m new infections per month, it could be 6, 7, 8 months before we reach that point.
A full lockdown French style would ban you going more than 1 km from your home for exercise and all travel outside your county apart from work and essential travel. The only difference between current tier 3 and “national lockdown” is full closure of hospitality and non-essential shopping.
I would like to see it explained how that would have any increased effect on numbers.
I would also like to see it explained how locking down those areas in tier 1 that are seeing extremely low numbers as part of a national lockdown is a necessary.
there is a lack of acceptance that numbers will go up.
the government needs to publish what the acceptable number of deaths is. In other words, what is the number of deaths at which point they will release the lockdown. Otherwise it will be a repeat of March when lockdown went on far too long and the evidence shows that the numbers were coming down long before lockdown ended.
if the public were given the specific details setting out the parameters “when this happens we will do this” then compliance will be greater and that’s one of the biggest problems at the moment
And yet austerity measures, which we will have for years to come no doubt, usually bring with it 100,000 deaths caused directly by those same measures. Public services, health and benefit cuts. The two are not separate, they are closely interlinked.I am not stupid , i know all of that , the economy always recovers , generations always recover , it will again , you cant come back to the life and the nhs cant collapse inthe middle of a pandemic or if you get sick they cant save you , that comes before everything for me
Meanwhile
Researchers from Imperial College London say existing measures to control the virus aren't working.
And they argue more stringent action is needed nationwide "sooner rather than later".
The latest round of testing for the widely-respected REACT-1 study suggests one in 78 people across England has the virus. And the epidemic is doubling in size every nine days.
How does that work? say someone previously recovered is not exposed to Covid again? There are still only a very small number of reinfections globally so it seems that immunity does last for a while in the majority of people.
if it is impossible to remote learn then let them go , we told everyone to go back then harding says nobody could see numbers jumping up as they did ! The ones that can come home test them and let the negatives go home and remote learnHi Karen,
So how many lockdowns do you propose between now and next April/May Three/Four? and do we keep children off school?
I'm not saying it wasn't, but I am interested to hear how you think the exit strategy was handled wrong? What would you have done differently. Without hindsight the calls are much harder?
As for unis you come out with statements like remote learning? as if its some magic fix, but that is only probably feasible for some humanities subjects. A large percentage of courses you just cant do via remote learning. So what do you do with those courses?
These calls are not easy are they?
