Daughter has gone back to uni but been told she cant come home until December 18th and if seen leaving with a suitcase she will be reported.

What the fuck! Seriously thinking of letting her pack in and try again next year. Not far off being in prison.
Locking them in in Manchester!

Is she being taught online or is she having lectures and tutorials?

Most important is: what does your daughter want?

Maybe it's not a problem for her
to stay 6 weeks and study together with other students
and then come home for christmas?

She in Liverpool isn't she? My lads at John Moores and out of 10 kids on his floor in his accommodation 6 have already gone home and aren't going back until the New Year

I want to defend Kaz as most of you are guys so may not understand what she meant.

By hovering she meant not sitting but squatting I assume. Especially if these are mixed facilities particularly - where - lets be honest - many bloke's aim is akin to some of the City forwards this season - as in barn door and miss.

For anatomical reasons the risk of infection from sitting on a loo seat is more acute for us than blokes. So cleanliness in facilities is second nature as opposed to not being even thought about by most blokes I suspect.

Wipes as noted for added assurance are always in our bags by the way. For all sorts of reasons. This being one of them these days.

Being married with two daughters, and having spent many a time on French motorways with them, I am well versed in the etiquette of hovering.

However using a public toilet during the current pandemic is fraught with much more danger than using the one at your mother’s home.

Serious question regarding support bubbles. If I classed my mum (living alone) as in my bubble, can my sister also class her as being in her bubble or are only one of allowed to do so. Now I’m not saying both see her at the same time but on different occasions?
This isn’t my situation by the way just wondered.
Pretty sure she can only be in one bubble

I agree and have avoided them for exactly that reason.

Scotland - sadly - another tragic day.

31 deaths,

But 1072 cases at 5.5% positive - which is better news.

460 Greater Glasgow, 210 Lanarkshire, 112 Lothian and 75 Ayrshire

1237 in hospital (down 15 on yesterday)

98 in ICU ventilator beds. Up 3

interesting take on it. something i normally take little thought to. however i do pride myself on my aim.

i would ignore that nonsense. If she wants to come home you bring her home worsley. last lockdown there were exemptions for people struggling mentally. I wont hesitate to go and get my daughter if she is struggling.

The fall in hospital numbers in Scotland was good news and mirrored in England yesterday with quite a fall in numbers there too in the delayed data not released until late last night. So not mentioned in the briefing by the PM.

If you missed the good news check back to this thread around 10 pm last night where I posted it.

The NW especially actually avoided passing the 2890 total patients with Covid from the peak of the pandemic in April and went DOWN. To the point it is not now even the region with the most in hospital. First time in ages that was true.

Much better figures from Scotland today, with the exception of the tragic deaths which unfortunately will likely continue at that sort of number or possibly get worse for a while yet. Cases and % positive figures encouraging.

More than 618,000 people had coronavirus in community settings in England last week, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has said.

The estimated total, which covers 25 to 31 October, equates to around one in 90 people in the population.

Scotland 3 wks ago v 2 wks v last wk v today

Deaths 9 v 18 v 28 v 31 today

Cases 1246 v 1196 v 1281 v 1072 today - slow fall but clearly not rising.

Patients 629 v 975 v 1170 v 1237 - an even more promising slow down here.

Ventilators 58 v 76 v 83 v 98 - less obvious here but Nicola did note this and deaths would be the last changes to see happen as we know on here is the case.

'The rise in cases is levelling off and we hope starting to dip' and 'the R number is hovering around one - it might be slightly below 1 or above 1' & 'your sacrifices are working' - says Nicola Sturgeon just now.

The data above supports her.

An epidemiologist at King's (Tim Spector) reckons today there is growing evidence we have passed the peak of the second wave.

I agree there are several positive signs as the data has been flagging up for a week or so now - Northern Ireland in particular with its 5 day rolling case average tumbling in past 2 weeks is very encouraging. As was the drop in NW hospital numbers and slow down of ventilator numbers in the NW last week. And Scotland's plateau effect is clearly real.

Deaths are not the thing to judge from right now as they will only decrease after the other measures do by a week or two.

King's argue the R is now almost 1 - which is lower than the official numbers quoted in the briefings.

The measures we have taken do seem to have had some impact but it is premature to think we are past the peak of the second wave. As in that it will not come roaring back.

I hope it is true and some factor other than the measures we took is involved but there is a big difference between this infection waning in April and one doing so in November. That is the season we are moving into. And so you would not presume any downturn is more than temporary.

So its certainly a little optimistic to think things will carry on heading the right way. Though it would be politically good for him if Boris has stumbled almost by accident into lockdown at a point where things are going in the right direction as the 4 weeks may look like the real cause and people will not notice that they were on the way down before it started.

This is one reason I dislike the overuse of the 5 day old data to make decisions. Yes they are more accurate and complete but it is obvious they miss things by waiting. The Bolton explosion was apparent days earlier than it got spotted off this list by local politicians because they were going off the 5 day old data only it would seem.

You have to watch both to get the full picture.

This isn’t my situation by the way just wondered.
I thought it can only be one individual and one other household

mixture - she is training to be a nurse.
In that case she’ll miss out on lectures if she doesn’t return.
Either she puts up with this crap or she defers, like you said.

Bit draconian to be telling youngsters they can’t go home until a specified date. Are they supposed to miss birthdays, deaths, marriages etc etc. Is their life on hold until the uni says they can go out?
