We had a surge on site two weeks ago having avoided it all year pretty much. Makes me wonder if it was the new strain?

There is a big difference - though - true as the island protectivity is real.

We are so closely linked to Europe and an international cross roads.

Iceland is more like Australia than we are and even they are less remote from elsewhere.

Britain could have done better emulating the island status but it could never have replicated what Australia did.

Not least because of the vast size of the landmass versus one of the most densely packed small islands on the planet. A virus thrives here in ways it has more trouble with in areas that are well separated.

Nobody is immune as even Australia shows. But if you are wise you use your assets not ignore them as we did.

Sadly we are now chasing the virus by weeks at its most dangerous time. Our only hope is mitigation of the disaster about to unfold. Disaster has already been made certain by too many errors in the past

My heart goes out to the medical staff who will be expected to administer vaccines whilst they face quite likely a worse wave of hospitalisations than they ever have before given the sheer numbers that are coming in the worst possible two month period of the year.

Most of the leaders of European countries are clowns.
None of them have covered themselves in glory but at least they are trying.
And the biggest clowns of all are the fuckwits that dont give a shit about anything or anybody and cannot or wont follow out the simplest instructions to keep themselves and others safe .
God help us or better still let's call the Chinese in and let's see if you like their methods of restricting the pandemic .

You do realise that Scotland and Wales can and do make their own decisions about reacting to the pandemic. Wales had a 17 day circuit breaker recently which is what Starmer was calling for. It didn't work unsurprisingly.
 
Scotland has 14% of the new strain but this is some days old (same date as the 17% for the NW by the way) and they think it will be higher now. Nicola Sturgeon.


We face a new period of exponential growth.

So 'we have to act NOW to stop it'.

Hence all the mainland into level 4 for 3 weeks from Boxing Day. Review after 14 days.

Even the remote islands going on more lockdown than parts of England.

Someone takes this new threat seriously and someone is still seemingly distracted.

Wonder which is which?
