I’m sure they’re not the only country to have done this.
A Chinese citizen journalist who reported on the outbreak of coronavirus in Wuhan has been jailed for four years.

A Chinese court handed the term to Zhang Zhan, 37, on grounds of "picking quarrels and provoking trouble", her lawyer said.

The Trump drug cocktail started to roll out to UK hospitals at the end of November. It drops the death rate on UK hospital admissions by 10-20%
Maybe true but we have to be cautious, note the ages of cases on the lowest graph here. The vast majority of positive cases are <60, this will change given many vulnerable people have just mixed with younger groups at Christmas.

GREATER MANCHESTER SCOREBOARD:

855 Cases - up from 717. 33% of the 2551 NW cases.

3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v TODAY:- 481 v 442 v 813 v 855 TODAY

MANCHESTER 152 up from 122, Total cases 35, 086. Weekly 1068. Pop Score up 27 to 6346. Weekly Pop down 10 to 193.

STOCKPORT 127 up from 84. Worst in about 5 or 6 weeks. Total cases 12, 217. Weekly 657. Highest weekly in some time here and now second worst weekly numbers here in GM a\only behind Manchester after being best for months in the past. Pop score up 42 to 4162. Highest rise in GM today. Long long time since Stockport had that record. Weekly Pop up big - 18 - to 222. Nearly 7 weeks since Stockport was this high and from second best Pop score in GM to one of the worst is a big recent change.

WIGAN 97 up from 83. Total cases 18, 823. Weekly 612. Better than Stockport shows how these two boroughs have flipped fortunes in past month. Pop Score up 30 to 5728. Weekly Pop stays at 187.

ROCHDALE 86 up from 40. Total cases 14, 518. Weekly 516. Pop score up 37 to 6526. Weekly Pop up 2 to 230.

BOLTON 77 down from 84. Total cases 16, 868. Weekly 450. Pop score up 26 to 5865. Weekly Pop up 7 to 155. As the best Pop in GM 155 is the highest that 'low' has been for 6 weeks when Trafford was best at 149.

TAMESIDE 75 up from 67. Total cases 11, 609. Weekly 437. Lowest weekly in GM - Just! Pop score up 31 to 5123. Weekly Pop up 14 to 190.

SALFORD 70 up from 43. Total cases 15, 087. Weekly 548. Pop score up 28 to 5830.Weekly Pop down 5 to 213.

BURY 66 down from 78. Total cases 11, 393. Weekly 461. Pop score up 36 to 5967. Weekly Pop stays at 243. Highest in GM - but Stockport is coming!

TRAFFORD 53 down from 64. Better day but misses lowest score just. Total cases 10, 101. Weekly 536. Pop score up 23 to 4256. Not lowest today either. But good enough to slice big into Stockport's overall Pop score lead by a whopping 19 in one day to leave it at just 94. Weekly Pop down 8 to 226. Slicing the gap to Stockport in the weekly number too from 30 to 4 in one go!

OLDHAM 52 level with yesterday Top Dog in GM was unthinkable when it was in the top 3 worst in Britain in the autumn. But shows other places suffering now it can be done. Total cases 16, 478. Weekly 449. But amazingly only 12 behind Tameside for the lowest weekly cases title now. Pop score up just 22 to 6950. Best in GM today which given that this Pop Score is about to become only the third in the country to enter the 7000 club shows how this is a giant leap forward for this borough. Weekly Pop up 2 to 190.

Had you said a month or two ago that the only 5 boroughs in GM with a Pop Score under 200 would only be basket cases Bolton, Wigan, Oldham, Tameside and Manchester and the ones then all with low scores would be up top it would have been improbable.

This reversal in fortunes shows how these tiers leak cases and do not staunch them.

507,604 tests were done yesterday. That's 0.76% of the UK population everyday.
A mind bogglingly high number
Where did you get that data please?

The Gov.UK site has not updated testing since 23 Dec when it was 510, 735.

I post them daily in here but there has been none since Christmas on the data site.

Though really only the pillar 1 and 2 count for much in terms of positivity. These are the vast bulk. I don't usually add in the anti body testing.

From Bats to Pangolin to Squirrels now...

*double checks....apologies - quarrels.

Loads of people off with little to do apart from watch Wallace & Gromit.
Headaches from too much shit food and booze and possible winter colds (or run down from said excesses).

I guess they revised it as it says 507k for 23rd now.

It’s not the number of people actually tested. It’s the number of tests reported that day. Still a huge number. Let’s hope we can vaccinate this number of people per day although doubtful

And as I said not all those are countable in the positivity rating.

We are doing far more tests now though. That is true. And very good news.

Another scary fact from this worrying week is that there have been in the past 7 days over one quarter of a million people testing positive.

Carry on like that and we will be close to the number being so high that the virus must slow by natural attrition from inability to pass it on so easily.

Clever how the virus has adapted to become more infective.

But the reason is that so many have had it it was running into a wall and needed to catch up.

So in an odd way it is a good sign that in humanity v the virus the virus is in catch up mode.

And as we know with City when you are 1 - 0 up and the opposition is adapting their play as the clock ticks in a desperate effort to stay in the game you bring on Vaccine as the surprise substitute hoping to stop the opposition regaining a foothold as the clock ticks down.

you would hope evolution is taking its course and the virus has whatever it would call a survival instinct and has become more infective at the expense of being damaging and lethal in order for mutual co-existence to a reasonable degree. If we can reach that threshold with a vaccine on top we're getting somewhere.

As far as I have seen the most important thing with most of the drugs that Trump got is to give them early.
By the time they get to hospital the optimum time for giving the ones other than the steroids is passed.
Trump got them early.

should we not start creating ration packs to distribute these for "if you test positive at home, take these in prescribed doses" so people can ward off the worse effects themselves?

I agree I think this will end with co existence on a level acceptable to both. Evolution does not need sentience to progress but it does thrive on balance of ecologies. We and the virus are now mutually linked and neither side needs to go for total elimination. It does not benefit either side and these things usually end up in some kind of equilibrium,

would be nice if the virus was sentient and went "damn, killed this one. Uh oh, killed that one too"..."Hang on, if I change to this they let me spread round really easily and hardly any of them die, this works". Could make some money with a Covid chatline where you can have a heart-to-heart with your virus...

Stay home blues.

I just wish all the idiots who are posting pictures on social media showing them at dinner parties with multiple households and no social distancing see this. The country is full of selfish twats who are just carrying on as normal. I know plenty of people who have had the virus, some badly, and other who have died with it. Why are people still carrying on hugging and kissing friends, having people in their houses etc etc.
