Covid and travel discussion

In the Mere at the moment and quite a big spaced out site. We are in the owners section by the lake and a little bit rough n ready. Our van is at least 20 years old and was under the impression Haven imposed age limits before you had to pack up and move off.

Mickeys were having a large group party of 20 + last night on the green with copious amounts of ethanol and party games. At 22.00 hundred hours it was kicking off big time and an inhebriated woman was yelling "get out get out my van you fuckrr and don't come back" Ten minutes later the bald headed miscreant came wobbling past us waving his finger at the sky whilst babbling incoherant shite.

Pub's OK and one choice of lager Carlsburg or Carling at £4.70 a pint. We can't go in to see Rory the Tiger and friends as the entertainments extra.

The Mere is a nice walk with lots of camouflaged hides. We sat inside one for half an hour and saw some ducks a kestrel and a brace of 118's.

Went in the Royal Toby across the way as Denis recommended it and it was nothing short of gash. Would sooner have been force fed pie-hella.

Woken up at 04.00.am by a wood pigeons tap dancing on our roof and making their distinctive morning call. For any non birdy's amongst you it's two woo's followed by a prolonged woooo and repeated many times to fuck off the occupier. Also my car is covered in bird droppings, leaves pollen dust and sap.

However the weathers lovely and a breaks a break and not a pcp test in sight. Wish You Were Here : /
makes benidorm sound like fuckin monte carlo

In normal times, absolutely yes. But these are not normal times and these decisions have consequences that potentially affect other people (the more people coming in and out of the country the more difficult to control the spread of variants). With that in mind is it so absolutely terrible and unthinkable to have a holiday in the UK this year?

Fuck yes.

I assume you're also requesting people to eat at home and not go to restaurants?
And to drink at home rather than going down the boozer?

If people are travelling within the regulations set out by the Government then let them crack on, they are doing nothing wrong and should not be fucking guilt tripped into staying in the UK.

If YOU want to stay at home, then stay at home. I'm sure many others are doing the same this year, which is absolutely cool.
You don't see any of us in the 'foreign holiday' camp telling you staycationers to get your arses abroad, so equally you shouldn't be trying to dictate how someone spends their money and annual leave.

Anyone banging the staycation drum has also picked a really bad day....grey skies and pissing it down all day here; it's almost July, what a joke.

When I was a kid we couldn't afford holidays abroad for many years (and this isn't a sob story about how poor we were, because we weren't in the big scheme of things) so a series of holidays in caravans in the Lake District were the order of the day. Hence, whilst I understand people need a break, I don't really get why it has to be abroad and why there is so much wailing and gnashing of teeth about how people 'deserve a holiday abroad after all we've been through' (not necessarily from posters on here, by the way).
The funny thing is it shouldn't be far cheaper to go abroad.

We went to London a few weeks ago and I was forced to drive because the train was over £300 and it was cheaper to fly. The hotel for just 3 nights was £690, £100 for parking! Forget food and drink too so a few nights easily turned into a £1k trip.

To compare, we are booked to go to September to the US for 2 weeks and it's costing just £2k with a 5* hotel and flights included...

If the borders are open and the traffic light is amber or better then we'll be going.

That’s what I can never understand about UK holidays if they want more of us don’t take the piss with prices, you can’t be reliant on the weather so give us a better incentive.

I can understand if a 4* hotel is a few grand for a couple of weeks but smaller crap hotels?

It's cheaper to rent a house for a few months in Cornwall than it is to go on holiday there...
